Emmanuel Olusanya trained at LAMDA. His work in theatre includes Pericles and Henry V at the RSC, Midsummer Nights Dream at Holland Park Theatre; Phaedra at the National Theatre; Lark Rise to Candleford and The Snow Queen at the Everyman Theatre; Flashbang at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre;The Trumpet and the King for Terra Nova; and Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens at the King’s Head. Luke Rhodri is proud to be part of ‘BOY-ISH’ and to be touring the show across Wales, having been involved in the project’s original R&D process in January 2024. Seeing the piece grow from those early stages into a full show makes this a particularly special project to return to.
Since graduating from Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2017, Luke has built a varied career across theatre, television, film and audio drama. Like many actors, his journey has taken him through everything from touring productions and independent films to sci-fi worlds and new writing.

Screen credits include ‘Doctor Who’ as Callo Rence in ‘The Well’, alongside ‘Wolf’ (BBC One) and ‘Arwel’s House’ (BBC Wales). He also recently wrapped filming on an upcoming horror feature ‘Grin’, set within the ‘Jack in the Box’ universe and currently in post production. Previous work includes the feature film ‘Ruthless’ and ‘Torchwood’ audio dramas.
Stage credits include ‘Dial M for Mayhem’ and ‘A Murder Is Announced’ (Middle Ground Theatre/UK Tour), ‘A Prayer for Wings’ (Bill Kenwright Ltd) and ‘Hamlet’ (Vienna’s English Theatre/European Tour).

Luke hopes audiences enjoy ‘BOY-ISH’ as much as the company have enjoyed creating it, and that it sparks honest conversations about the pressures many boys and men face today.

Blanka Barbara Stahl is a classically trained composer, electronic music producer, and DJ whose work spans theatre, dance, and audio-visual performance. She created and performed the music for Belarus Free Theatre’s “KS6: Small Forward”, winner of an Off West End Award, premiered at La MaMa in New York and now touring across Europe. She also composed the electro-acoustic opera “Out at Sea”, which premiered at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham to five-star reviews and subsequently toured to Warsaw Chamber Opera. She is behind three sold-out Southbank Centre productions: the 1,000-capacity “Rave: Recharge”, the audio-visual live-electronics show “Undying Sounds: Reinventing Komeda”, and the contemporary dance work “Untold Wajda: Blokowisko”. After several years building an international profile in electronic music and club culture, she now brings that world into theatre and concert halls, blending live instruments, synthesisers, and electronic production into a distinctive, evolving musical language.

Jacob graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2011 and was a finalist in the Linbury Prize for Stage Design that same year. He has since been nominated for Best Set Designer in the Off West End awards, Wales Theatre awards and has exhibited his work in the Society of British Theatre Designers exhibition Make:Believe.

In 2016 Jacob was awarded the National Theatre’s Max Rayne Design Bursary for Emerging Artists. Design credits include Broad Shadow at the Dorfman Theatre, National Theatre, Start Swimming at The Young Vic, Poet in da Corner at The Royal Court and Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Introducing our BOY-ISH LIGHTING DESIGNER - RYAN JOSEPH STAFFORD

Ryan works internationally as a Lighting Designer for theatre and dance. He trained at Rose Bruford College, graduating with a First Class BA Honours Degree in Lighting Design. Ryan received a Masters with Distinction in Art & Politics from Goldsmiths, University of London following his research into ‘Political Light’
Ryan was awarded ‘Best Lighting Design’ by the Off West End Awards for the international tour of Bacon. In 2019, he received the ‘Michael Northern Award for Excellence in Lighting Design’ from the Association of Lighting Designers. In 2025, He received a Critics’ Choice Nomination from the Profile Awards for KABEL.

We’re excited to announce the creative team behind BOY-ISH.

Written by Rhys Warrington
Directed by Anthony Matsena & Kel Matsena

Rhys is a Welsh writer and actor whose credits include BLUE, Get Ready With Me and Out Of The Blue. His play MONUMENT will premiere in 2026 in a co-production between the Royal Court Theatre and the Sherman Theatre. He’s also been selected for the Sherman Writers Group, Pentabus Young Writers, BBC Welsh Voices and was one of three writers on attachment with BBC’s Casualty in 2025. He’s currently under commission with Welsh National Theatre and is the 2026 Jerwood Writer in Residence at Pentabus.

This production also marks Anthony and Kel’s debut co-direction of a play — a major and exciting moment in their creative journey. Bringing their distinctive theatrical language, emotional intensity and bold visual imagination to BOY-ISH, this collaboration signals the beginning of a powerful new chapter.

We’re incredibly excited to share that Matsena Productions has been invited to begin a new research journey with Bunkamura in Japan.

This next step is rooted in exchange, collaboration, and the possibility of creating new work across borders. We’re especially grateful to have received support from Arts Council of Wales , through the International Opportunities Fund, as we begin this process and build toward what comes next.

We’re grateful for the invitation, and excited for what lies ahead.
