In mostra, presso la Tana Art Space, un corpus inedito di dipinti di Mark Francis, da sempre interessato ad approfondire i rapporti fisici e poetici che intercorrono fra arte, suono e scienza.
«Quando dipingo – spiega Mark Francis – l’azione del pennello che mescola i colori crea l’illusione di un suono. La pressione distende il colore, creando varie intensità di toni. Man mano che ogni banda di colore inizia a mescolarsi con un’altra, mi trovo a confronto con colori e suoni nuovi e a volte inaspettati. Alla fine del procedimento pittorico, sono davanti a un “mare di suono”. [...] I dipinti sono statici ma contengono impulsi sensoriali e ciò che viene visto, udito e sentito dipende da chi osserva»

On display at Tana Art Space is a previously unseen body of paintings by Mark Francis, who has always been interested in exploring the physical and poetic relationships between art, sound, and science.
“When I paint”, explains Mark Francis,“the action of the brush mixing colours creates the illusion of sound. Pressure spreads the paint, producing varying intensities of tone. As each band of colour begins to merge with another, I find myself confronted with new and sometimes unexpected colours and sounds. At the end of the painting process, I am faced with a ‘sea of sound’. [...] The paintings are static, yet they contain sensory impulses, and what is seen, heard, and felt depends on the observer."
