Skeptical to adulterate a can of fine San Marzano tomatoes, but curious enough to follow ‘s recipe for marinara - half an onion, garlic clove (ok I added two), and a chunk of good butter. Simmered 30 minutes and strained. Oops, he said add fresh basil too, but I didn’t have any. Strain it all out and then voilá: Steeped and deep, smooth marinara. I wonder what the ladies in Puglia would say...

Our Story

Rome Retreats was founded in 2015 by chef Rissa Miller, after she spent a summer cooking on a yoga retreat near Rome in the countryside. Inspired by the landscape, (and by cooking meals straight from a garden everyday), she decided to create her own culinary and creative art retreats. Since then, Rome Retreats has grown into a collaborative team of professional chefs, artists and local tour guides that create fun, relaxed, communal, eco-friendly travel experiences.
