This sweet little danylion displays a system of micro network, inspired to connect in a world so interconnected and affected by every small thing that happens on it, its going around coming around sort of reality we live in, we only live this one life now, flow with the wind and be kind to one another, there is more who want peace in the world than war, don't forget it! 🤍

We looking to expand our Collective, if you love connecting with nature and collaborating in art with others within it, we could be the space for you to express things! Feel free to get in touch via DM or email us on [email protected]

We are nearing the ritual held by and . .theconcept has been working on this “Divine Guides” project which is an “immersive retreat that unifies our diversity” says Cathy. The roots of her Gaelic Blood make an offering of Fire to the ancestors of this land, the bushman guardians of the Earth since humanities origins. Cathy says and I quote “This piece is an Irish Triquetra, a symbol of the Goddess merged with the concept of tusks and birds of the South African Rocklands.”
Stay tuned for stories from the ritual ahead and for a glimpse of the final project before she burns!!!

Weaverbirds

Traveling together creating ‘nests’ wherever the land urges us to do so.

Weaverbirds Collective is a group of multidisciplinary artists who have found a relatable fondness for sticks. As funny as it sounds, it is completely true. Just like the weaver bird, we search for weavable, natural materials to create our ‘nests’. We create Land Art installations, where weaving is our main game. Growing into organically, feminine formed shapes with a practice that is too intense for one to manage, creating collectively we can achieve new heights within our art.

This joy sparked within us in 2018 where we found ourselves building artworks together in South Africa’s Tankwa Karoo Desert, building artworks Skeleton Leaf of Change alongside Fine Balance for the special blank canvas that is AfrikaBurn art festival. The woven project then went on to feature as part of the Tankwa Artscape residency’s Land Art exhibit for its fundamental eco-design structure which forgoes the use of power tools and was handwoven entirely with wattle trees. Thus Weaverbirds Collective was born and has been nurtured group project since.

When we work with nature's resources this is where we surrender to the natural creation in site-specificness and materials. Using hardwood such as old oak branches, bending wattle trees, and the satisfyingly flexible wicker/willow sticks the piece takes its form in the way the material allows it. Weaving with wattle is a meditative practice that has been used by the South African bushman communities, and can be seen used in land artists' work such as Kim Goodwin, whom of which we have taken much inspiration and tips from. The plant is an invasive species to South Africa, Portugal, Italy, and many more places, knowing that we deforest it giving us the pleasure of engaging with the material from uprooting it from the grounds to twisting it into the framework of the art presented.
