Digital Heritage 25: Highlights and Insights from the event โจ
On September 10th, ๐พ๐๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐: ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ข๐ was presented at the 4th edition of the ๐๐ข๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ ๐ International Congress & Expo, in Siena, Italy.
The CREAMARE team introduced the serious game developed to raise awareness on the protection of ๐๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ธ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ต๐ข๐จ๐ฆ (UCH) and marine ecosystems through interactive storytelling and digital innovation.
Attendees had the chance to experience a live gameplay session, engaging in missions inspired by real-world marine challenges:
๐ชธ Rescuing marine life from ghost nets
๐ข๏ธ Cleaning oil spills
๐ Catching invasive species
๐งฌ Matching DNA samples
๐บ Exploring and restoring submerged archaeological sites
Set across nine real UCH sites in the ๐๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐๐ง, the game blends scientific content, historical research, and environmental awareness into an immersive first-person experience.
The presentation received enthusiastic feedback from both academics and heritage professionals, sparking new reflections on the role of ๐จ๐๐ง๐๐ค๐ช๐จ ๐๐๐ข๐๐จ in cultural dissemination, education, and sustainability.
But this is only the beginning.
๐ A major update is in the works: improved graphics, ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ด๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ธ๐, a ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฝ, and exciting new features โ including collectibles and new layers of interaction.
And while we canโt reveal everything just yet... ๐ the next version of the game will go beyond the Mediterranean, bringing to light new underwater archaeological sites from international waters.
