Tidal Infrastructures by aida.org
Italian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025.
Marine ecosystems are in crisis.
Urbanized coastal areas, already facing intense pressure from human activities and climate change, are some of the most affected regions.
The project imagines a new relationship between architecture, ecosystems, and coastlines.
It proposes a system of modular, bio-integrated structures — soft infrastructures that regenerate rather than resist.
Combining biomimetic logic, marine ecology, and spatial experimentation, these tidal platforms act as:
– Dynamic coastal protectors
– Habitats for marine biodiversity
– Public interfaces between land and sea
The proposed solution brings together two complementary elements:
Functional islands.
Accessible through water pathways Serve as multi-functional spaces for research, tourism, and recreation.
Act as natural barriers to reduce coastal erosion.
Barrier structures and water pathways.
Serve as connections between the mainland and the islands, ensuring a seamless integration of land and marine spaces, while supporting the regeneration of marine life.
These two systems are interconnected, creating a cohesive infrastructure that balances ecological restoration and human engagement
