A population of small figures that act as playful, symbolic companions. Each figure operates as part of a bestiary, acting as demons, or protective presences, navigating the space between the human and the divine.

Sometimes extensions of herself, other times independent, the artists calls them “travelling companions”.

TRAY are small (dys)functional objects by Alessandra Pasqua, developed since 2022. Not mere everyday objects but vessels charged with conceptual weight and symbolic meaning, centred on the act of service and care for others. Each piece in the series is cast from a pastry tray commonly found in Italian pastry shops. Made of silver or gold-toned metal, they bear engraved sentences.

Initially, the TRAY series stemmed from reflections on patriarchy and domestic life, underscoring considerations of confinement, overthinking, and the mental load: the circularity of thoughts that occupy the private sphere. Later works (2025) began to turn outward, in an empathic embrace to humankind, with inscriptions expressing care, empathy, and support, bridging personal and collective emotion. Their colours and tonal variations mirror emotional fluctuations, rendering each piece dynamic and expressive.

At its core, the series represents a transformation: what began as a reflection on constraint and inherited roles has evolved into a language of protection, connection, and meaning. In Italian culture, serving others carries a duality: a burden and an act of love. Through TRAY, Alessandra reclaims this act, turning symbols of patriarchy into gestures of care, creating a powerful emotional and conceptual journey within her practice.

Cage / Out presents an anthology of Alessandra Pasqua’s recent works, tracing the evolution of her practice from intuitive experimentation to a fully articulated artistic language. The exhibition unfolds as a journey from emotional confinement to openness, vulnerability to resilience, inviting viewers to engage physically, visually, and emotionally with the works. Across the show, Pasqua explores how structures of power—both literal and symbolic—shape identity through bodies, emotions, and relationships, and how these constraints can be transformed into expressive, positive outcomes.

Cage / Out charts a transformation from containment to agency, from historical structures of control to contemporary explorations of colour, form, and emotion. Across the series presented, Pasqua’s work negotiates the interplay between power and identity, opening a conversation on protection and openness, body and object, self and other. The exhibition’s arc—from Iron Distancing to We Will Be Light—reveals how structures that once constrained bodies and emotions can be reactivated as instruments of movement, expression, and courage.
