In 1975  Abate travels to Florence  to attend the exhibition at the Galleria Area open on March 28.

One of his shots immortalizes the artist lying supine on the ground; attached to his foot is a nozzle connected by a rubber tube to a gas tank. A flames came out of the nozzle and heads towards a small table where a coffee machine is placed.

Kounellis keeps the flame burning under the coffee machine until the drink is ready.

In September 1971, Claudio Abate participated in the Seventh Paris Biennale, where Michelangelo Pistoletto created "Plagio", while Gino De Dominicis performed "Che cosa c’entra la morte?" and Pier Paolo Calzolari presented the installation "Untitled (mortificatio, imperfectio, putrefatio, combustio, incineratio, satisfactio, confirmatio, compositio, inventio, dispositio, actio, mneme)".

Untitled (1970–71) is a large installation inspired by alchemy, made up of neon lights, sounds, and Latin words. Twelve hanging lightbulbs display terms related to the alchemical processes of transforming matter.

Through light and repeated sounds echoing in the space, the artist turns these concepts into a symbolic reflection on art as an experience of enlightenment and inner transformation.

Pier Paolo Calzolari, (Untitled) (mortificatio, imperfectio, putrefatio, combustio, incineratio, satisfactio, confirmatio, compositio, inventio, dispositio, actio, mneme), 1970–71, in Septième Biennale de Paris, Parc Floral de Paris, Bois de Vincennes, Paris 1971

In 1973 Claudio Abate worked on a photographic project on the theme of mother and child commissioned by “Playmen”, where it was published in issue no. 4.

He remained deeply attached to this work, to the point of later printing it and transforming it into a distinct photographic series.

This photographic series is part of Claudio Abate’s experimental practice, aimed at portraying the persistence of a female image in the gaze of a man and maternal love.

On February 1969 at L’Attico, Claudio Abate documented Mario Merz’s solo exhibition Che fare?

The artist occupied the garage, displaying an igloo, metal and glass structures, bundles of sticks, a bale of hay pierced by a neon tube, a mound of earth crossed by a metal mesh, and the car used for the trip from Turin to Rome.

The main photograph, later published on the event poster, shows the moment after the action: once the exhibition was over, Merz wrote the question “Che fare?” on one of the walls and opened a tap on the wall, letting water flow across the gallery floor.

On Tuesday, March 31, the MAXXI will host the screening of the film 'Claudio Abate. L'obbiettivo sull'arte' (The Lens on Art) by Pappi Corsicato.

A journey into the world of Claudio Abate, a human and artistic portrait of the photographer, presented to the public for the first time.

Rome, 1960s and 1970s: amid performances, happenings, installations, and visual utopias, the language of Arte Povera was emerging.

The documentary film Claudio Abate. L'obbiettivo sull'arte (The Lens on Art), through previously unseen archival materials, personal photographs, and Super 8 videos, constructs a human and artistic portrait of the photographer: from the Rome of cultural cafés and pioneering galleries to the most extreme visual experimentation, Abate emerges not only as a witness of an era, but as its essential interpreter and a silent co-author of a visual aesthetic that has shaped contemporary art.

Introduction by
Irene de Vico Fallani, Head of the Orientations and Development Department at MAXXI

With a talk by
Pappi Corsicato, director

In collaboration with Clemart SRL, Rai Cultura, Archivio Claudio Abate, and Cinecittà Luce.

The work was produced with the support of the Fund for the Development of Investments in Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture.

Admission is free, subject to availability.

For Claudio Abate, 2008 began with the documentation of the Penone exhibition inaugurated on 28 January at the Accademia di Francia and made up of works from private collectors, from the artist's personal collection and from the Castello di Rivoli.

In the shots relating to the sculptures placed outdoors (such as the bronze tree ' Idee di pietra' in front of the façade of the building) Abate emphasizes the colors of the sky which, as background to the works, also becomes the main subject of the vision.

Today, the exhibition “Metaphysics and Metamorphosis” opens at the Palazzo Reale in Milan.

The exhibition also features two photographs by Claudio Abate 'Contatti con le superifici sensibile' and 'Giorgio De Chirico at the Venice Biennale in 1972'.

A major exhibition, three “exhibition chapters” across three major Milanese museums, and a multidisciplinary program of initiatives for the city: Metaphysics/Metaphysics is the project curated by Vincenzo Trione, which puts in dialogue the masters of Metaphysics with international “heirs” and with the “students” of the 20th and 21st centuries.
