Sei venuto tra la nostra gente e la tua vita è sicura
LOCALES & at Thursday 05 March, 7 pm.

LOCALES is thrilled to invite friends in Rome to a lecture, screening and conversation by and with Palestinian artist Emily Jacir at MACRO, Rome.

The evening will focus on the influence and impact of Italy and in particular of Rome, where Jacir has lived on and off since she was 14 years old, on her practice, excavating two decades of projects and interventions the artist has developed on Italian soil. These include three permanent installations in: Pietrapertosa, Basilicata; Palermo, Sicily and Milan.

Often staging or permanently installing work in public space, the artist has worked with photography, film, sculpture, installation and performance to reflect on collectivity, memory, migration, exclusion/inclusion, visibility/invisibility, and how these are negotiated with the body and in public space.

Following a presentation by Jacir, the artist will be in conversation with Sara Alberani and Chiara Siravo (LOCALES), tracing shared reflections and urgencies around public space and silenced histories. A selection of the artist’s film works will be screened in the MACRO cinema over the course of the evening.

Cultural workers STOP everything!
No more cultural funding from the arms industry, no more censorship of Palestinian voices and their allies, no more normalization of “Israel” in culture.

WE ARE ON STRIKE!

“[…] For the land to be tamed, the Italians subjugated not only the organized Libyan resistance but also all bodies carrying ecological cosmologies documented in oral practices and rituals. Erasing bodies means erasing a long lineage and heritage grounded in ancestral oral history and ultimately erasing tangible land and water practices—it did not succeed. Despite the capitalist and consumerist model, oral documentation and practices still resist. Returning to Vishmidt, this is about making holes in the infrastructure and challenging narratives and methodologies, which is very much about decolonial practices reconfiguring agencies and ontologies. Daniela Ortiz | SOWING ARCHIVES

Sowing Archives came to a close on November 20th with a performance by Daniela Ortiz, 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑜𝑜𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎 ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑚𝑦 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑, 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑡𝑢𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑙, preceded by a conversation titled 𝑃𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑡𝑠, 𝑡𝑢𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑙𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒𝑠. 𝐴𝑟𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑖-𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒, between the artist and Valentín Roma, artistic director of La Virreina.

The performance combines the languages of traditional children’s theatre and puppet shows, focusing on the anti-colonial and anti-imperialist stories that have been buried throughout the 20th century.

No Christmas as usual during genocide. No Christmas as usual until liberation.

Liberation is a daily practice, and this year as well, our thoughts, voices, and actions stand unwaveringly with the Palestinian people, with communities in Lebanon, and with all those resisting colonial violence and occupation.

In a time marked by silence and complicity, we respond with solidarity and action. We continue to organize, to rethink how and where we consume, to join the BDS movement, and to ignite conversations that dismantle systems of oppression.

Our refusal to look away is an act of resistance. From Gaza to Beirut, from the West Bank to southern Lebanon and beyond.

“[…] We are everyone who came before us and we are living in atrocious absurdity. The time that is being put forward in the spaces that we create, is the right time. This is a time that is joyous for us, a time that is generative. Every time we meet up, I feel like I get more ideas, I feel more alive, and that also comes with communing, with who Wael was in his life. […]”
