⚫️ ⚫️ KOMOCO DANCE
Komoco is a young Italian dance company, originally born from the collaboration of two sisters united by a passion for art: Sofia Nappi, choreographer and dancer, and Alice Nappi, violinist and composer.
The name Komoco is a fusion of two words:
“Komorebi”, a Japanese term meaning “the sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees” – an image that expresses a fleeting sensation, like the sunbeams passing through a forest, like the feeling of a dance that sweeps you away and, once it ends, leaves a sense of exhilaration and warmth.
“Collaboration”, the foundation of the company’s philosophy, where dancers engage in a continuous co-creative dialogue, enriching the work with their diverse backgrounds and making it unique.
In 2022, Komoco officially became an association based in Florence, founded by Sofia Nappi along with her closest collaborators and dancers, Paolo Piancastelli and Adriano Popolo Rubbio. It was the meeting with these two dancers in 2020 and the collaboration with Associazione Sosta Palmizi that marked the beginning of the company’s artistic and educational activities.
Since its inception, Komoco’s productions and workshops in Italy and abroad have garnered widespread recognition. The company's early short works won major international awards, soon followed by international co-productions.
Today, Komoco tours worldwide with choreographic projects by Sofia Nappi (IMA - a quintet, and PUPO - a piece for 7 dancers). The company continues to grow in both quality and structure, presenting works in top international contemporary dance theaters and festivals, thanks to its collaboration with the German agency Ecotopia Dance Productions, led by Claudia Bauer and Meinrad Huber.
Alongside its production work—focused on the creation and international touring of contemporary dance performances—Komoco is also committed to dance education. For years, Sofia Nappi and her close collaborators have been conducting workshops worldwide (Italy, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Belgium, Israel, Mexico, Serbia, and more).
These workshops are open to professional dancers, but also to non-movers and amateurs willing to explore movement. Komoco’s mission is to generously share its art with a broad and diverse audience, bringing people closer to contemporary dance through performances, educational programs, and inclusive events.
