Mel Gaynor è il secondo. Il beat di "Don't You (Forget About Me)" porta la sua firma, così come trent'anni di stadi pieni con i Simple Minds.
Qualche settimana fa lo abbiamo avuto in DS, a Recanati. Non per un'intervista veloce, non per una foto di rito. Per quattro ore vere, tra fogli di legno, presse e fusti ancora da nascere.
Abbiamo scelto il mogano insieme, guardato le venature controluce, annusato il legno prima ancora di sentirlo suonare. Perché il suono giusto si riconosce con le mani, prima che con l'orecchio.

A few weeks ago, he spent an afternoon with us at DS, in Recanati. Not for a quick interview, not for a photo op. Four real hours — veneer sheets, presses, shells still waiting to become something.
We picked the mahogany together, checked the grain against the light, smelled the wood before we ever heard it played. Because the right sound is recognised by hand before it's recognised by ear.
