Ogni anno migliaia di persone percorrono la rotta balcanica e tentano di raggiungere il cuore dell’Europa: sono uomini e donne che attraversano a piedi i boschi, le m***agne, i fiumi, i campi. Il più delle volte, quando vengono fermati dalla polizia di frontiera, sono rimandati indietro al punto di partenza. È quello che alcuni di essi chiamano “il gioco”.
Go, friend, go ripercorre la rotta migratoria che collega l’Asia all’Europa e racconta i passaggi di testimone delle storie dai confini, tra osservazione, interviste, found footage e animazione.
Go, friend, go sarà proiettato in anteprima al 63° Festival dei Popoli, nell’ambito del Concorso nazionale italiano, l’11 novembre.

Every year thousands of people try to reach Europe by land, journeying on foot across the mountains, rivers and fields of the Balkan route connecting Asia to Europe. Those with some money set aside mostly rely on human smugglers to cross from one country to the next. Everyone else faces "the Game": attempting repeatedly to cross borders trying to avoid being arrested and push backed by border police.
Go, friend, go spans across the ports of Patras in Greece, the forests by the border town of Šid in Serbia, the abandoned factories in the Bosnian Una Sana canton, and the arrival point in Trieste's public squares, all peripheral hotspots of migrant lives in transit. In bringing together different stories employing several narrative techniques (footage, animation and found footage), the film is an experiential journey, aiming to draw the viewer to feel the contrasting experience of resilience and resourceful hope that can be found in a context of destitution and violence.
