VERY MENTAL

sometimes the best stories come from records that were never meant to be released.

no official launch, just an ultra-limited run of 500 pink vinyls. a true collector’s piece born from a totally crazy studio idea. i could explain everything here, but you really need to hit play to discover what’s hidden inside this pink wax.

looking back, it was exactly what the title says: very mental. but taking massive risks is the only way to have fun making music.

#08 - & remix

sometimes a connection starts on a dancefloor and finds its way back into the studio years later.
I met luca at a party near Rimini, we immediately got along and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. having him and mass prod reinterpret dancefloor together was a real pleasure.

“when Martino and I started working on the remix, we wanted to keep the elements that made dancefloor immediately recognizable. we kept the vocal and parts of the main synth, then reworked them through our own perspective.

around those elements, we built a new groove, added new sounds and a different dynamic, looking for the right balance between the identity of the original and our own musical language.

when stefano asked me to work on the remix, i was really happy. beyond being a very talented artist, he’s someone i’ve always found genuine and generous, and this was a great opportunity to bring our own sensitivity into one of his tracks while keeping its spirit alive.” - &

playing at , right in the middle of people moving through the station, catching trains, crossing paths and carrying on with their day, felt special.

music inside the real flow of the city, in the pedestrian traffic of milan’s underground.

#04 - radio edit

federico bought the cd twenty years ago and kept dancefloor in heavy rotation for a long time. coming back to it now as a remixer gave that memory a completely new meaning.

“i still remember buying the cd twenty years ago. it stayed in rotation among my favourite records for a long, long time.

when stefano asked me to remix it, i was really happy, even though putting your hands on something you already consider perfect is never easy.

that’s why i chose to preserve the musical side of the original and bring my own touch to the rhythm section, using the bass and drum sounds that are part of my language. the idea was to make it mine without ever leaving the dancefloor.” — federico

in 2006, bartolomeo was sixteen and already searching for his own sound. twenty years later, he found himself reworking one of the records that shaped that search.

“when i first heard dancefloor, i was immediately struck by it. i already knew stylophonic’s earlier work, and this track confirmed my admiration for stefano. he had found a sound that felt fresh, urban, different. completely his own.

over the years, i got to know him personally, and our friendship only strengthened that respect.

when i had the chance to work on dancefloor, i knew i wanted to preserve the key elements of the original. i reshaped them within a new arrangement, adding a more club-driven groove and a bassline that reflects my own sound.” - bartolomeo
