Building International art gallery and center of the arts. An exhibition space that will host visual, perform

BUILDING, in the heart of Milan, has been created with the aim of exploring aspects of artistic enquiry and weaving a texture made up of different forms of expression. It is an exhibition space that will host visual, performing and applied arts, installations and design. BUILDING’s purpose is not just to highlight the work of well-known international figures, but also to dedicate space to ad hoc p

rojects involving emerging talents

5/12. Maria Lai, “Telaio”(2006), “Libro rosso” (2009)
🗓️on view until June 4th, 2026

Maria Lai (1919-2013) is featured with two emblematic works of her research: “Telaio” (2006) and “Libro rosso” (2009), intended as complementary testimonies of a poetic universe of great expressive power.

On the one hand, the processual logic of the work “Telaio” manifests itself in the creation of a magical machine, traversed by threads destined to create unstable geometries through the use of diagonal lines, parallel bundles, or intersections; on the other hand, the work “Libro rosso” reveals a mental script hidden within silent pages, crossed by tangled and suspended threads.

GALLERY is pleased to present “Vincenzo Castella. Timeless Archaeology”, a solo exhibition curated by Marco Scotini.

🗓️From June 5th to October 3rd, 2026
📌Opening: Thursday, June 4th, 2026, from 5.00PM to 8.30PM

The exhibition, which unfolds across the three exhibition floors of BUILDING GALLERY, brings together for the first time a cohesive body of around sixty large and medium format works, offering a comprehensive and layered reading of the artist’s research on the industrial landscape from the 1980s to the present.

“Vincenzo Castella. Timeless Archaeology” invites viewers to interpret this extraordinary body of photographic work through the lens of its own temporality. All these examples of oversized machinery characterized by fluorescent light, displayed at BUILDING GALLERY from the ground floor to the second floor in various formats, offer a truly archaeological approach that highlights the specific nature of memory that informs this body of work, as well as the rest of his oeuvre.

Through a selection of previously unseen works spanning four decades of activity, the exhibition conveys the continuity and distinctiveness of Castella’s research, exploring the processes of transformation in the landscape and visual memory.

On the first floor, the exhibition continues in the same spirit with a selection of works from subsequent decades, including several concrete pieces from the 1980s, titled “Determinazione”, and the famous “Tempo in Processo. Rapporti-misure-connessioni” (2008–2018).
Despite the apparent formal differences between the concrete works—which resemble rocks of indefinite shapes (evoking the cliffs of the Gallura coast, where in the early 1980s, Campus carried out a series of large-scale measurement interventions), and the multifaceted canvases broken up by iron beam inserts, the principle running through the artist’s entire sculptural practice is that of harmony achieved through knowledge, understood as the measure of the relationship between things.

“Disegno.
In un tempo senza orologio.
Con tutto il tempo.
Consumato in un filo di penna.
Risvegliato.
Ho visto l’inchiostro della notte.
Abbiamo parlato con lo sguardo silente
Che vede aprire i fiori.
Ora è diverso,
materia per materia.
Momento per momento, da fuori vedersi.
Visibili amici
Presenti a sé stessi.

curated by Marco Meneguzzo

🗓 On view until May 23rd, 2026
📍BUILDING GALLERY, Milan

The exhibition aims to serve as a fitting tribute to the artist from Milan, the city that welcomed him in the 1960s and where he lived and worked for over fifty years.
In this context, the exhibition begins on the ground floor with two wall-mounted projections dedicated to photographic documentation of the artist’s most famous actions/interventions.

On the walls, there are works from the 1970s and 1980s from the BUILDING collection—including “Segnico continuo” (1977), “Struttura modulare multipla” (1970), and “Percorso. Intervento” (1983)—while the space is traversed by springs that, echoing the 1977 installation, on the one hand, limit the view of the exhibition space, and, on the other, evoke a dimension of utopian constructive happiness.
