We'll make corruption unattractive, Tinubu promises

President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration will put incentives and policies in place that will make corruption unattractive for judges and other Nigerian workers.

A statement by the Office of the President-elect signed by Abdulaziz Abdulaziz quoted Tinubu as making the pledge on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the inauguration of Magistrate Courts Complex.

The event was part of Tinubu's two-day visit to the state to inaugurate projects executed by the Nyesom Wike administration.

Tinubu said with the right incentives that guarantee conducive working atmosphere and policies that make it easy for workers to acquire credit facilities for essential needs the temptation for corruption would reduce.

"You don't expect your judges to live in squalor, to operate in squalor and dispense justice in squalor. This is part of the changes that are necessary. We must fight corruption but we must definitely look at the other side of the coin.

" If you don't want your judges to be corrupt you got to pay attention to their welfare. You don't want them to operate in hazardous conditions," he said.

The president-elect said lack of consumer credit which could make it easy for workers to acquire property such as houses and cars make them susceptible to corruption.

"If you have consumer credit that will reduce the propensity for corruption. We don't want our judges to play foul, to compromise justice. I promise we are going to review all of these in a policy think tank."

Tinubu also reiterated his commitment to the unity of Nigeria promising to be fair to all.

"The unity of this country is not negotiable. That is what Wike and I are promoting jointly. I promise I will be fair to all."

Earlier, Governor Wike said the complex contained 24 courtrooms, offices and other facilities meant to decongest the state high court complex and expand access to justice.

He said his administration consider welfare of judges and condition of courts essential for speedy justice dispensation.

Wike charged the state Judiciary to ensure proper maintenance of the edifice for which financial provision had been made.

He once again thanked the President-elect for accepting to visit the state and commission the projects.

The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as well as Governors Muhammad Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), David Umahi (Ebonyi), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).

Also present were former governors Chief Bisi Akande (Osun), James Ibori (Delta), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo) and Ayo Fayose (Ekiti). Others were members of the National Assembly, Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, a former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Betta Edu, Chief Ayiri Emami, among others.

President-elect condoles with veteran Journalist, Yusuf Alli, over mother's death

President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a message of sympathy and condolences to the family of Hajiya Hawau Odee, who died on Sunday.

The late businesswoman and community leader, who died at 89, was the mother of a veteran journalist, the Managing Editor (Northern Operations) of The Nation newspaper, Alhaji Yusuf Alli.

Alli is also President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama.

In a condolence message released by his office on Monday, the President-elect described the death of Hajiya Hawau Odee as painful not only to her immediate family but to all who encountered her and felt her warmth and philanthropy.

"My sympathy and condolences to Alhaji Yusuf Alli and his siblings over the passing of their mother.

"I understand Hajiya Odee was a successful businesswoman who impacted many people.
Hajiya Odee's passing is therefore not only a loss to her six children and other members of her family. It is a loss to the community and by extension humanity in general. And that is the significance of a life well spent.

"She helped to nurture Alli and his siblings into very responsible and hardworking citizens as evidenced by their useful contributions in different spheres of life.

"My heart goes to the family at this moment. I pray for Almighty Allah to repose the soul of their departed matriarch," he said.

A beer company was hiring a taster, Someone to taste the beers before they are taken for selling.

So they placed adverts and one afternoon, an old man walked into the manager's office asking to be employed.

The manager tried to figure out how he could drive him away but couldn't come up with an idea, so he decided to give him a trial. He ordered his secretary to give him a glass of wine 🍷

He took a sip and said, "It's Red wine, Varietal, three years old, grown on rift valley, matured in steel containers."

"That's correct!" The manager exclaimed, "Well give him another one let's see." So he was given.

He took a sip again and said, "It's Guinness, a combination of barley, roast malt extract, and brewers yeast brewed around Thika road in Nairobi, Kenya 2 years ago"

"Incredible!" said the manager.

Now the manager went closer to the secretary and whispered to her saying, "Go get some of your urine in a cup let's see if he will get that."

So, the mzee was given the cup of urine. He took a sip, turned to the manager and said, "Female urine, 26 years old, 2 weeks pregnant and if I'm not given this job, Sir I will tell your wife who is responsible for the pregnancy"
