Joshua Barrera’s ‘Psychomachia’ is an insectarium of vibrant paintings tying nature, myth, and ambition. Marking his 6th solo exhibition, the series reflects a metamorphosis in the artist’s oeuvre–presenting the insects, his long-running subjects, in fantastical and cosmic worlds to be dreamed of.

The exhibition at MGalerie in San Juan ran from August 22 to September 22.

Through reconstructed mythological and religious imagery, Return To Rebirth explores how stories, symbols, and sacred figures transform across time, cultures, and belief systems. Drawing from European masterworks, relics, and settings, Barrera reinterprets familiar icons, allowing fragments of history and memory to take on new meanings. Bathed in the golden light of dawn, winged beings, human forms, and landscapes reflect a personal renewal intertwined with our collective search for beauty, solace, hope, and love. Ultimately, the exhibition speaks of the cyclical nature of creation, where endings give way to new beginnings.
