ATRII is a collective project and Association that investigates, through contemporary art, the concept of atrium or andron from a processual and theoretical point of view. All invited artists are required to identify in an atrium or in the concept of atrium, a link with their own research. This connection is therefore the basis for a project or else the hypothesis of an artwork that can be the outcome of this research and could highlight the links between art, territory and inhabitants. The aim is to create an unusual comparison between artist, space, commission and public by putting forward new opportunities and tools to enjoy contemporary art. A few questions and shared texts are the starting point for a reflection on space and after a first discussion, each participant is free to further develop the topic autonomously. The outcomes of the research are archived at Cittadella degli Archivi in Milano, the Municipal archive, and is also published online. All projects are accessible to institutions, neighbourhood associations, individual citizens, curators and artists themselves so as to foster the beginning of a process of direct activation in any other city. The invitation is open to artists that have worked or lived for a short time in the area of Milan. ATRII Open Archive it’s the first project of living archive that has been included in a municipal archive; it was founded in 2015 by Italian artist Alice Pedroletti and it’s currently run and curated by the artists involved as a Collective.
