Ricordiamo e che nel 2005 con noi hanno manifestato all’Isola contro la colata di cemento in arrivo e per non distruggere la Stecca degli Artigiani, ultima testimonianza di un passato operaio del quartiere.

Isola Art Center è stato inaugurato nell’aprile 2005 alla Stecca degli Artigiani dall’Assessore alla Cultura della Provincia di Milano, . Consapevoli del rischio di diventare complici involontari della gentrificazione del quartiere, abbiamo sperimentato una via diversa. Ci siamo alleati con le associazioni del quartiere che combattevano la trasformazione imposta dall’alto: il comitato I Mille e l’associazione genitori Confalonieri, con le quali abbiamo creato il Forum Isola. L’obiettivo di questa alleanza è stato sintetizzato da Daniela in occasione dell’inaugurazione: “É chiaro che questo quartiere deve cambiare, ma non deve essere snaturato”.

... Ci sono stati anche a Milano negli anni trascorsi momenti di lotta vivaci e radicati nei territori, valga per tutte l’esperienza di Isola Art Center nel quartiere Isola Garibaldi, poi brutalmente soppresse. Oggi tutto questo diventa difficile per via dello sfilacciamento delle reti e dunque dei progetti. Bisogna anche riconoscere che molti degli spazi antagonistici da tempo paiono ripiegati su sé stessi...

Dan Perjovschi "Present. 1988-2012"
Drawing is the essential language we all know and some will loose. Art is a way of life not a job. Dan Perjovschi is an artist who draw. His drawing is a synthesis between cartoon, art brut and graffiti and has the role of a reportage. He is a time specific commentator of political and social life. His drawings migrate from the museums room to the protester camps and posters. From the withe cube to the world wide web. The drawing is now a political tool. Simple direct and with humor Perjovschi drawings are temporary all over the world..

The lecture will show how this language was forged in the dictatorship and established in democracy. Perjovschi was born in the same year Berlin Wall was erected 1961 and how he put it: he still stands.

Join us for the next session of Pedagogies of Care series on April 25th and meet artists and activists Mariette Schiltz and Edna Gee.

The guests will share their experience and talk about the social, political and pedagogical implications of Isola Art Center and Isola Pepe Verde projects in Milan, Italu. Many of the strategies and ideas they will tackle were closely linked to the practice of artist Bert Theis – one of the founders of Isola Art Center, a teacher and important mentor to many young activists and artists who passed away in 2016.

Series of encounters Pedagogies of Care, curated by Andris Brinkmanis draw inspiration from the legacies of historical figures such as Francisco Ferrer Y Guardia, Asja Lacis, Bertolt Brecht and Walter Benjamin, Ivan Illich, Augusto Boal, P***e Nielsen, bell hooks and David Graeber among others and aims to foster a debate, bridge and bring together various figures and groups engaged with alternative pedagogical strategies on a global scale.

Nel librone "Italia 1960 oltre il 2000. Teoria e critica d'arte" di Angelo Trimarco uscito recentemente, la professoressa Maria Giovanna Mancini nel suo intervento intitolato "Una relazione persistente: arte e città dopo il 2000" parla anche di Isola Art Center e Bert Theis affianco al lavoro di Fabrizio Bellomo.
