SILENCE BECAMES IMAGE
Paul Cupido (NL, 1972)

Born on the island of Terschelling, where the rhythm of life is marked by the tides and lunar phases, Cupido brings a rare vision to the art world, suspended between the concreteness of nature and the abstraction of dreams. His work is not a simple documentation of the visible, but a spiritual quest rooted in the Japanese concept of Mu—the void filled with possibility—and in the sentiment of Mono no Aware, that sweet melancholy linked to the transience of all things.

His works are “visual haiku”: fragments of time in which the human body and the landscape merge, printed with an almost obsessive attention to texture and light, capable of restoring to photography that tactile dimension we often forget. We will be exhibiting his work next at (9-11 October).

A new chapter for our gallery begins today. We invite you to be transported by the vibrant silence of Paul Cupido.

TURN TO THE SKY

Marco Tagliafico’s project “Turn to the Sky” is a profound investigation into the relationship between the artist’s will and the autonomy of nature. The title itself is not a simple label, but a layered semantic manifesto: it encompasses the physical act of positioning the canvases toward the zenith, the metaphysical desire to communicate with a divine dimension, and the vulnerability of a cry for help.

It is a work born in the silence and darkness of the darkroom, where the canvas is prepared with a photosensitive emulsion linked to cyanotype, before being delivered to the brutality and beauty of the outside world. In this transition from the protection of the shadows to total exposure, the work ceases to be a static object and becomes a living process.

Jacob Aue Sobol’s exhibition itinerary connects the major European art capitals.

During the recent Paris Art Week, the work from the celebrated “Home” project was exhibited at the Palais de la Bastille as part of the group show “Love,” a prestigious project created in collaboration with .official.

The combination of the intimate research of “Home” and the thematics of “Love” deepens the artist’s stylistic signature, offering a rigorous reflection on human connections and vulnerability through the power of black-and-white documentary.

On this occasion, we would like to remind you that the program dedicated to Jacob Aue Sobol continues in Milan: the exhibition at the Mudec represents a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the artist’s visual universe, where the raw and poetic force of his works continues to redefine the boundaries of contemporary photography.

HENRO by Bastiaan Woudt

We are used to knowing Bastiaan Woudt for his sculptural, sharp black-and-white photography and its impeccable geometric elegance. Yet, there is a side to his research that moves on different frequencies—extraordinarily intimate and silent.

In 2024, the artist traveled the Shikoku Henro, one of Japan’s oldest Buddhist pilgrimages: 1,200 kilometers through temples and mountains, experienced without the intention of documenting, but with the sole desire to listen and simply be present.

The project HENRO is born from this mindset. It is not the depiction of a place, but a collection of subtle traces; images detached from documentary reality that resist explanation, carrying the quality of a dream or a memory.
A side project, deeply Japanese, that focuses on pure contemplation and reveals the most refined, visionary, and poetic soul of a great contemporary photographer.

Soon in Milan, Verona, Roma.
STAY TUNED!

THE DISSOLVING BORDER

Pietro Catarinella’s artistic research lies at the intersection of traditional painting and the visual flows of contemporary digital culture.
Through his work, the artist explores the profound transformation of perception, memory, and imagination in the age of the internet, social networks, and artificial intelligence.

Catarinella draws on a diverse archive of media images, deconstructing and recomposing them through oil painting, conceived here as a true conceptual device of translation and montage. His works thus materialize in visually complex and processual spaces: territories in which the drift of the viewer’s gaze generates intentionally ambiguous, unstable, and plural narratives.

BEYOND THE IMAGE: MATTER AND SILENCE.

Forget photography as a mere snapshot: for Bastiaan Woudt, the image is a surface to be sculpted. In his work, the first thing that strikes you is the density of the blacks and his almost magical ability to turn light into something solid—as if his silhouettes were carved directly from marble. The Dutch artist performs a true visual purification, stripping away the “noise” of color to offer visions that seem to exist outside of time.

The secret to his international acclaim lies in a unique approach that could be described as “digital painting.” Woudt doesn’t just portray; he manipulates textures with a craftsman’s sensitivity until skin, fabric, and landscapes take on the tactility of charcoal or the depth of velvet. It is a perfect bridge between the rigor of 20th-century masters and a sharp, pure contemporary aesthetic. Each of his works, whether born in a studio or during a journey through Africa, aspires to be a universal graphic icon, where the perfection of form compels the viewer into a meditative pause.

We are proud to bring this consistent and powerful vision to Milan.
