🇮🇹 Numa Echos Interview: “My goal is to set the trend, not follow it.”
Hi, Numa. It's nice to meet you, and we're glad you agreed to answer a few questions for our readers.
1) If someone were hearing the name Numa Echos for the first time and knew nothing about you, which of your works would you show them first — and why that one in particular?
Definitely my improvisations with music and words.
2) You describe yourself as a “polyartist”— someone who works freely across multiple art forms. Is there one among them that you consider your “home,” or do you generally feel more comfortable moving between genres and forms?
I think every art form is deeply representative of my essence. I like the idea of suspending myself between one artistic entity and another and watching them flow around and within me.
3) You directed a film based on your own book, in which you served as director, screenwriter, actress, and composer all at once. Don’t you sometimes feel the urge to simply entrust part of the work to someone else? And, by the way, is there anywhere we can watch this film?
I absolutely love collaborating with other souls and minds, as long as they’re in line with my vision. In the film “Sogni di Lucida-Mente: allusioni e rivelazioni di un io follemente sano” I contributed significantly to its creation and production, but I also drew on the ideas, creativity, and work of other professionals. The film is available to watch for free on the OlzeTv platform powered by Sky, but I plan to upload it to my YouTube channel soon.
4) You’ve performed on stage alongside famous artists. Is there a musician, an encounter, or a concert that made you think, “These are the moments that make all of this worthwhile”?
No… every artistic experience, in all its forms, makes me think it's worth it.
5) Let’s talk about your new album. “Descending Consciousness” blends rock, industrial, trip-hop, metal, new wave, and electronic music. What’s more important to you when creating music — belonging to a specific genre or the opportunity to break its rules?
Always and in every case, break the rules. My sound certainly
leans toward specific genres, but that’s not a choice I’ve made, it’s a natural tendency. My goal is to set a trend, not to follow one.
6) The title “Descending Consciousness” sounds almost like a journey into the self. Where exactly did you want to take the listener with this album — into their own subconscious, into a city at night, or perhaps into the dark side of modern society?
I would like to take the listener into the dark side of modern society, which stems from a lack of analysis of one's own unconscious and self-awareness.
7) Is there a song on “Descending Consciousness” that turned out to be unexpected for you — for example, one that was originally conceived completely differently but became something greater in the process?
Yes, “Everyday”, originally written by Aldebran Di Alteg, frontman of the goth rock band Bloody Mary (an exceptional project that I encourage you to check out) and later rearranged, reshaped and transformed by me.
8) You speak of modern society as a world often devoid of ethical and creative conscience.
What particularly annoys you or inspires your creativity today?Blindness, deafness, lies, and deceit bother me… and I draw inspiration from these reprehensible elements to create beauty and offer life lessons.
9) You seem capable of turning practically anything into art — music, words, film, visual images. Is there anything that, in your opinion, cannot become art?
We could elevate everything to the level of art, but there are those who, consciously or unconsciously, prefer the mediocrity of a reality without all of that.
10) And finally: if tomorrow you were allowed to create anything without any rules or restrictions, what would it be?
I would create and give myself to you.
