A few years back, I wrote for the renowned Italian audiophile magazine, SUONO. During that time, together with my colleague Luca Lombardi, we embarked on a quest to capture the vibrant essence of contemporary jazz in Italy. Our aim was to create a distinct sound that paid homage to the warmth and charm of vintage American jazz recordings. To achieve this, we took a bold approach and recorded directly onto tape, steering clear of the overly digital gloss that can sometimes dilute the authenticity.
Our endeavor took a serendipitous turn when we found ourselves in collaboration with Forum Studios, a recording sanctuary nestled in the heart of Rome, where musical luminaries like Ennio Morricone had once left their mark. Surrounded by state-of-the-art equipment within those historic walls, we felt the resonance of musical history that would help us weave the sonic tapestry we sought. With the exceptional musicianship of the Ettore Carucci Quartet, we brought this recording to life.
Italian jazz, to me, possesses an enchanting beauty that strikes a deep chord. There's something magical about the seamless fusion of Italian musical traditions with the spontaneous brilliance of jazz, complemented by the influences of classical music. The melodies are adorned with grace, and the harmonies, rich and resonant, create intricate layers that envelop us with warmth and sophistication. But what truly sets Italian jazz apart is the passion and emotional depth conveyed by the musicians. The Ettore Carucci Quartet's performances reflect a sense of restraint and elegance, embraced by many musicians in Italy, as they pour their hearts into every note, creating an unparalleled musical experience.
In Italy, jazz comes alive during summer festivals set in breathtaking locations by the sea, in ancient towns, or within amphitheaters. The cool of the night, riding on the wings of the musicians' courage, offers an unforgettable experience like no other. Each note is played with unwavering devotion, taking us on a journey that traverses the spectrum of the human experience.
Until the day you can join us in Italy and experience this music firsthand in such a setting, I wanted to offer you a glimpse of that experience through this album. Let the melodies and rhythms transport you to the heart of Italian jazz as we embark on this musical journey together. Thank you for your support and enjoy the music! 🎶🎷🎵
