L'edizione di Monteriggioni del Tuscany Medieval Festival ha in serbo per voi qualcosa di veramente speciale... nella giornata di sabato (tra pomeriggio e notte) daremo vita a un vero e proprio assedio al borgo di Monteriggioni!
Lo sapete meglio di noi, il castello è nato come luogo di difesa di uno dei confini del territorio senese, numerosi sono gli assedi che ha subito senza mai essere espugnato e noi vogliamo ricordare l’assalto che subì durante la guerra scoppiata dopo la famosa congiura de’ Pazzi, avvenuta 26 aprile 1478.
Infatti, con la morte di Giuliano de’ Medici la risposta di Lorenzo e della città di Firenze fu violenta e il papato insieme ai suoi alleati nel luglio 1478 dichiarò guerra. La repubblica di Siena, acerrima nemica di Firenze, si schierò con l’esercito antifiorentino e nel giugno 1479 l’esercito nemico arrivò a Monteriggioni. Il duca di Calabria, Alfonso, e il duca di Urbino, Federico da Montefeltro, schierarono le proprie truppe a difesa del castello che riuscì a resistere e dal quale partì la controffensiva.
Immaginatevi macchine da guerra, arcieri, artiglieri, cavalieri tutti schierati e pronti a riportare in vita questo pezzo di storia!

The Monteriggioni edition of the Tuscany Medieval Festival has something truly special in store for you… on Saturday (from the afternoon into the evening), we’ll be staging a full-scale siege of the village of Monteriggioni!
As you know better than we do, the castle was founded as a defensive stronghold on one of the borders of the Sienese territory; it has withstood numerous sieges without ever being conquered, and we wish to commemorate the assault it suffered during the war that broke out following the famous Pazzi conspiracy on 26 April 1478.
Indeed, following the death of Giuliano de’ Medici, the response from Lorenzo and the city of Florence was violent, and in July 1478 the Papacy, together with its allies, declared war. The Republic of Siena, Florence’s bitter enemy, sided with the anti-Florentine army, and in June 1479 the enemy army arrived at Monteriggioni. The Duke of Calabria, Alfonso, and the Duke of Urbino, Federico da Montefeltro, deployed their troops to defend the castle, which managed to hold out and from which the counter-offensive was launched.
Imagine war machines, archers, artillerymen and knights all lined up and ready to bring this piece of history back to life!
