“ESCAPE - Encouraging the use of SCenic Arts in Prisoners’ Education” is a project funded by the European Erasmus + programme to a transnational partnership composed of:
- Comitato Nobel per i Disabili (lead applicant based in Gubbio, Italy), founded by Franca Rame and Dario Fo, Nobel Prize for Literature 1997,
- CEPER "Afonso Muriel", which deals with the education of prisoners in the penitentiary of Seville (ES),
- ASTA Theatre Company (Covilhã, Portugal),
- Associazione Nuovi Linguaggi (Loreto, Italy).
In addition to various associations from the three partner countries and the penitentiaries of Pesaro (I), Seville (ES) and Covilhã (P), the Teatro Aenigma Association and the Coordinamento Nazionale Teatro in Carcere (Theatre in Prison National Coordination) will collaborate on the project.
The macro-objective of ESCAPE is to maximize the use and impact of performing arts in educational strategies and practices within prison systems.
ESCAPE aims to offer utilities to educators in charge of any learning program / discipline plan / curriculum to be able to rely in a systematic way on artistic tools and methods in order to:
- support and integrate the methods of their specific teaching,
- have a "lubricant" in relational mechanisms with their students,
- to encourage the attention and motivation of learners.
In the space of two and a half years a team of researchers will work in the penitentiaries of Pesaro (I), Seville (ES) and Covilhã (P) to develop and test with special training activities aimed at educators and students in detention curricula and guidelines for the use of Theatre, Music and Dance to support educational processes in European prisons.
With this we want to offer references, examples... to let us glimpse possibilities and potentialities that can sensitize and stimulate other operators and organizations to make performing arts become an essential element in their own practices and educational systems.
The central idea is to create three courses for each of the three penitentiaries involved, each of which uses one of the three indicated performing arts. The results of the complex of experiences gained in a European framework will be reported in the intellectual outputs so that they could be taken as a systemic reference within and outside the partnership.
Cos’è il progetto ESCAPE?
“ESCAPE - Encouraging the use of SCenic Arts in Prisoners’ Education” è un progetto finanziato dal programma europeo Erasmus+ a una partnership transnazionale composta da:
- Comitato Nobel per i Disabili (capofila con sede a Gubbio, Italia), fondato da Franca Rame e Dario Fo, premio Nobel per la Letteratura 1997,
- CEPER “Afonso Muriel”, che si occupa dell’educazione dei detenuti nel penitenziario di Siviglia (ES),
- Compagnia Teatrale portoghese ASTA (Covilhã, Portogallo),
- Associazione Nuovi Linguaggi (Loreto, Italia).
Oltre a varie associazioni dei tre paesi partner e ai penitenziari di Pesaro (I), Siviglia (ES) e Covilhã (P), collaboreranno al progetto l’Associazione Teatro Aenigma e il Coordinamento Nazionale Teatro in Carcere.
Il macro-obiettivo di ESCAPE è quello di massimizzare l’uso e l’impatto delle arti performative nelle strategie e nelle pratiche educative all’interno dei sistemi carcerari.
ESCAPE ambisce offrire utilities agli educatori preposti a qualsiasi programma d’apprendimento / piano di discipline / curricolo per poter contare in forma sistematizzata su strumenti e metodi artistici al fine di:
- supportare e integrare le metodologie della propria didattica specifica,
- disporre di un “lubrificante” nei meccanismi relazionali con i propri studenti,
- favorire l’attenzione e la motivazione dei discenti.
Nell’arco di due anni e mezzo un team di ricercatori lavorerà nei penitenziari di Pesaro (I), Siviglia (ES) e Covilhã (P) per mettere a punto e testare con apposite attività formative rivolte a educatori e allievi in stato di detenzione curricula e linee guida per l’uso di Teatro, Musica e Danza a supporto dei processi educativi nelle carceri europee.
Vogliamo con ciò offrire dei riferimenti, degli esempi… far intravvedere possibilità e potenzialità che possano sensibilizzare e stimolare altri operatori e organizzazioni a far divenire le arti performative elemento essenziale nelle proprie pratiche e nei propri sistemi educativi.
L’idea centrale è quella di realizzare nell’arco di un’annualità educativa tre percorsi per ognuno dei tre penitenziari coinvolti, ognuno dei quali usi una delle tre arti performative indicate. Le risultanze del complesso delle esperienze maturate in una cornice europea verranno riportate negli output intellettuali perché vengano così prese a riferimento a livello sistemico all’interno e all’esterno della partnership.
