JORRIT TORNQUIST — THE IDEA OF COLOUR

ABC-ARTE is pleased to announce The Idea of Colour, a new exhibition dedicated to Jorrit Tornquist, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and developed in collaboration with Archivio Jorrit Tornquist.

Bringing together works from the 1960s to recent years, the exhibition traces more than six decades of Tornquist’s investigation into colour as a physical, perceptual and spatial phenomenon.

Following Colour is Space in Itself in Genoa, the Milan exhibition unfolds as an autonomous yet complementary chapter in ABC-ARTE’s ongoing project dedicated to the artist.

Gastone Biggi: from rhythm to space.

From the dense seriality of Continuo 121 (1965), through the radical structure of Variabile BH (1969), to the atmospheric field of New York evening (1990), Biggi’s work traces a sustained investigation into rhythm, repetition, color and spatial perception.

Art does not represent the world.
It reveals the invisible forces that shape it.
Across generations and artistic languages, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Giorgio Griffa, Alan Bee and Filippo Moroni invite us to move beyond the visible.
Pomodoro opens matter to reveal its hidden structures and tensions. Griffa frees painting from representation, allowing gesture, rhythm and time to become the work itself. Alan Bee explores the relationships between colour, nature and perception, while Moroni questions the stability of the image, where memory, absence and reality converge.
Different generations. Different materials. Different languages. Yet a shared question: what can art reveal that the eye alone cannot see?
Four distinct practices that approach art as a form of knowledge — a means of understanding reality rather than simply describing it.

At ABC-ARTE, we believe the most compelling dialogues emerge from shared questions rather than shared styles. Because the history of contemporary art is not simply a succession of movements.

On view in Syracuse, New York, through September 6, 2026, Interspaces marks a major museum exhibition dedicated to one of the most influential figures in postwar Italian ceramics.

First introduced to American audiences through the Everson Museum’s landmark Ceramic International exhibition in 1958, Valentini went on to redefine the language of ceramics, moving beyond its functional dimension and establishing it as a powerful artistic medium. His innovative research also attracted the attention of Lucio Fontana, confirming the significance of his contribution to postwar art.

These installation views offer a glimpse into an exhibition that celebrates the depth, materiality, and poetic vision of his work.

ABC-ARTE is proud to support the international recognition of Nanni Valentini’s legacy.

Gastone Biggi belongs to that rare group of artists whose research has become part of the permanent collection of the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome.

Standing before these works is a reminder that some artistic journeys never truly end. They continue to resonate, opening new dialogues between the past and the present.

What if transparency wasn’t about seeing through, but seeing differently?

In Trasparenza (1974–75), Nanni Valentini transforms one of the most fragile materials—gauze—into a place where light, matter and space quietly converge.

The pigment doesn’t simply cover the surface; it becomes part of its structure. The threads remain visible, the void becomes as important as the material itself, and the work seems to exist in a delicate balance between presence and absence.

More than fifty years later, Trasparenza still feels remarkably contemporary. It reminds us that an artwork doesn’t always need to occupy space—it can reveal it.

In Auguri (2026), Bertozzi & Casoni transform a familiar word into a meditation on the passing of time. The polished golden script is gradually reclaimed by honeycomb and bees, where nature becomes both creator and witness of change.

Beauty here is never static. It is fragile, evolving, and inseparable from the cycles of life.
