GINO PAOLI passed away in Genoa on 24 March 2026 (he was born in Monfalcone on 23 September 1934). His song IL CIELO IN UNA STANZA is considered a masterpiece of the GENOESE SCHOOL and is perhaps one of the finest songs of 20th-century Italian songwriting. It was composed by him and first released in 1960, performed by Mina, on the 45rpm single “Il cielo in una stanza / La notte”.
Paoli himself recounted that the lyrics describe an encounter with a pr******te, with whom he had fallen in love, which took place in a brothel in Genoa, recognisable by its “purple ceiling”. The circumstances and surroundings are poetically transfigured: the melody begins slowly and intimately, rising towards INFINITE and dreamlike SPACES, where the harmonica, which “sounds like an organ”, renders the experience almost mystical. Despite the subject matter, this classic of Italian music represents a SYMBOL OF FREEDOM AND EMOTIONAL INTENSITY and, above all, of the power of feelings to transform our perception of reality.

FELIX, DARE TO DREAM (Italy, 2024, 105 min.) is a film directed by Valerio Bariletti and Morgan Bertacca, who also produced it. The protagonist is FELIX LEU (born in Switzerland in 1945 and dead at the age of 57 in 2002): eclectic artist, existentialist and hippie in the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s, he discovered TATTOOING as a resource to support his traveller life, but then he became an innovator.
Roaming the world, Felix and his wife Loretta gave their four children a fertile ground to grow up independently as artists. Felix challenged conformity and social rules proving that an UNCONVENTIONAL ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLE is possible. Even though he is no longer with us, anyway, his spirit keeps living through the eccentric family that tells his story. And it is a compelling story, because it is not only about art, but also about FREEDOM and nomadic existence, about exploring one’s CREATIVE ABILITIES and remaining true to one’s dreams.
The film – winner of the Audience Award at the 2025 Doc’n Roll Film Festival in London – will be screened on Monday 23 February 2026, at 9 p.m., in Genoa, at the Circuito - Cinema City (Vico Carmagnola 9). The event will be preceded by a meeting with directors VALERIO BARILETTI and MORGAN BERTACCA, led by art critic and journalist Linda Kaiser.

An exhibition in Genoa pays tribute to PAOLO DI PAOLO (1925-2023), the photographer who has finally been “rediscovered.” Through stories and portraits, the retrospective “FOTOGRAFIE RITROVATE” (Rediscovered Photographs) at the Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura sheds light on the brief but intense artistic career of the photographer who, describing himself as an “amateur”, contributed to shaping the golden age of ITALIAN PHOTOJOURNALISM in the 1950s and 1960s.
In the article by Linda Kaiser, published on 11 December 2025 in the Italian magazine ARTRIBUNE, you can also read about the characteristics of this great photographer’s direct visual language and the EMPATHY he was able to create with his subjects.

Contemporary art tells the story of MOBY DICK in an exhibition at Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura in Genoa. The most famous WHALE in literature is the starting point, together with HERMAN MELVILLE’s novel of the same name (published in 1851), for an exhibition dedicated to large cetaceans, past and present, real or imaginary. From Pino Pascali to Tacita Dean, the whale is rediscovered as a METAPHOR for the challenges of contemporary civilisation.
In the article by Linda Kaiser, published on 13 November 2025 in the Italian magazine ARTRIBUNE, you can also understand the originality of the interdisciplinary exhibition itinerary.

Esce dalle pagine di Melville e approda a Palazzo Ducale la balena Moby Dick. Da Pino Pascali a Tacita Dean, la mostra genovese rilegge il tema della balena e le sue implicazioni metaforiche attraverso l’arte contemporanea

“VOLEVO ESSERE UN DURO” (I wanted to be a tough guy) is the song with which Tuscan singer Lucio Corsi, inspired by an intimate and essential imagery, participated in the SANREMO ITALIAN SONG FESTIVAL 2025, finishing in second place, but winning the Mia Martini Critics’ Prize. ‘It talks about how the world would like us to be infallible, with the solidity of stones and the perfection of flowers, without however telling us that all flowers hang by a thread. It talks (assuming this song has a mouth) about how normal it is to become something other than what you dreamed of'. It is an EXISTENTIAL STATEMENT that places this ARTIST outside conformity, in a mix of fairytale and dream, of poetry and romance.
The MUSIC VIDEO for the song is a kind of remake of that of “We’re Not Gonna Take it”, a song by Twisted Sister, the leading American hair metal band of the 1980s. Between comedy and surreality, the familiar episode features a child who, in protest, locks himself in his room, which is also the REFUGE OF HIS IMAGINATION.
Credits: A Borotalco.tv Production, DIRECTED BY TOMMASO OTTOMANO, starring Massimo Ceccherini, Leonardo Pieraccioni, Laura Locatelli, Alvise Cimarosti, Mariia Zhizhkun.
