Willkommen in der schillernden Welt von Edgar Degas! Anders als viele Impressionisten malte Degas nicht gerne draußen in der Natur – er liebte das künstliche Licht der Theater, die Oper und das Ballett. In „Die Orchestermusiker“ spielt er genial mit unseren Augen: Im dunklen Vordergrund sitzen die Musiker, deren schwarze Anzüge und braune Instrumente fast mit dem Orchestergraben verschmelzen. Doch unser Blick wird unweigerlich auf die grell erleuchtete Bühne gezogen, wo kopflose Tänzerinnen in rosa Tutus wie schwerelose Feen schweben. Welcome to the dazzling world of Edgar Degas! Unlike many Impressionists, Degas didn’t like painting outdoors in nature—he loved the artificial light of theaters, the opera, and the ballet. In „Orchestra Musicians,“ he plays brilliantly with our eyes: in the dark foreground sit the musicians, their black suits and brown instruments almost merging with the orchestra pit. Yet our gaze is inevitably drawn to the brightly lit stage, where headless dancers in pink tutus float like weightless fairies.
