When was the last time you stopped just to look? (Really look?)

Every point of view opens a door to a different piece of the world.

The recent visit of the Princess of Wales to Reggio Emilia generated a lot of beautiful energy but also made me reflect on how "umbrella terms" can sometimes become so familiar that they risk losing their orignal meaning.
So I would love to invite you to try a small exercise:

- Notice every time you use the word "Reggio" (or "Reggio Approach", "Reggio inspired", "Malaguzzi said", etc.).

- Write down the exact sentence.

- Replace the word "Reggio" with one or more words that sound like synonyms to you, or a paraphrase.

- Observe the concepts that are probably emerged and replace them with concrete elements (specific contexts, actions, or real situations).

- Replace these general elements with specific examples lived firsthand.

- Read the initial sentence and the final one right after the other.

How does it feel? What was inside the word Reggio?

This process is slow, quite hard, and not very spectacular, but a real revolution.

If you try the exercise, you are welcome to share how it went in the comments! 👇✨

PS: In the photos, a precious memory from ten years ago, during my time working as an atelierista at the Loris Malaguzzi Centre in Reggio Emilia

It was a joy to welcome groups of students from Texas and spend time exploring the creative and transformative potential of paper.

Starting with just our hands, then adding simple tools and everyday objects, and eventually working with thread and needle as an unexpected drawing tool - together with Valentina Pucci, in her beautiful garden and studio.

More details coming soon

So happy that the Grammar of Paper is spreading in Greece too…
Many thanks to Anna Tourla for bringing it to the 1st primary school, ag. Konstantinos, in Agrinio.
What students did is just amazing ✨

Where does the idea of the artwork come from?
Does it emerge from within the creator, or from “outside,” in the material?

It is precisely in the in-between, in the relational space between them.

The unexpected qualities and characteristics of the material open up possibilities that would otherwise be unimaginable.
Yet it is through the creator that these possibilities can take shape.

It is a relational dynamic with materials in which process and product are inseparable.
The product reveals itself organically during the process, rather than preceding it with the expectation of a pre-defined result.

This magic circle defines the creative act, which is part of our nature as human beings.

Once upon a time, there was a cluttered table.
Among the various scraps, there were a few strips of white cardboard. One of them had been casually folded into three parts, creating a shape with a hidden, special movement within it. If softly touched, it would rock; if pressed in a certain spot, it would hop. It seemed alive, it looked like something… a "something" I wanted to make visible.

Zac, zac!
Two cuts.
There she was.

And this was the beginning of Esther's story.

For anyone lucky enough to live in a snowy place ❄️
I’ve just updated my blogpost on the grammar of snow, including beautiful contributions from land artists and other snow experts.
There’s also a small personal memory from my own childhood in the snow 🤍
If you love exploring snow, textures, shapes, and the creative possibilities it offers, this is for you:

Move from these first questions:

How can I use this with children?
What could it become?
What can I do with it?

Instead try asking:

Who are you?
How can we play together?
How can you be transformed?

I find a comforting winter soul in collage on black paper.
A kind of cozy contemplation.

Choosing only one element makes the empty space full of meaning.
Then two: what relationship?
More than two: composition and positioning in the space of the sheet become more relevant.

Each time a decontextualization, and maybe, a new story.
Enjoy.
