The recent visit of the Princess of Wales to Reggio Emilia generated a lot of beautiful energy but also made me reflect on how "umbrella terms" can sometimes become so familiar that they risk losing their orignal meaning.
So I would love to invite you to try a small exercise:
- Notice every time you use the word "Reggio" (or "Reggio Approach", "Reggio inspired", "Malaguzzi said", etc.).
- Write down the exact sentence.
- Replace the word "Reggio" with one or more words that sound like synonyms to you, or a paraphrase.
- Observe the concepts that are probably emerged and replace them with concrete elements (specific contexts, actions, or real situations).
- Replace these general elements with specific examples lived firsthand.
- Read the initial sentence and the final one right after the other.
How does it feel? What was inside the word Reggio?
This process is slow, quite hard, and not very spectacular, but a real revolution.
If you try the exercise, you are welcome to share how it went in the comments! 👇✨
