San Carlo Cremona announces "Iconoclasm. A Trilogy in the Form of a Liturgy", a new project in three acts developed by San Carlo and curated by Stefano Rabolli Pansera.

Beginning on 12 December 2026, three artists will enter into dialogue with San Carlo through an exploration of image, voice, body and absence.

Iconoclasm takes shape at the moment when the image remains visible and, at the same time, seems to withdraw. A presence that cannot be fully retained.
The trilogy emerges from this tension and from a dialogue with the architecture and history of San Carlo.
The first act will be announced soon.

Today presented at Heartland festival, Denmark.

Last year the artwork debuted as a site specific installation created for San Carlo Cremona.

Paola Pivi presents an Agusta 109 helicopter, flipped upside down and placed, in this case, on a platform in front of Egeskov Castle. This positioning transforms an object known for its functionality and association with movement into an unexpected and disorienting presence. The inversion emphasizes the tension between the helicopter’s tangible materiality and its symbolic connection to flight, challenging visitors to reconsider their perceptions and interactions with familiar objects, which in this context take on a new and surprising dimension.

Guglielmo Castelli’s painting expands into space and becomes an integral part of the scene. His fragile and suspended figures - bodies, fragments, and allusive presences - seem to emerge from and dissolve into the pictorial field. In this project, the images also recall the Baroque iconographic tradition of the fall of the giants: bodies that plunge, slip, and lose their balance, as if space itself were crossed by a continuous downward movement.
