James Filkins, Dog Eared Days

Today we can finally share the album in full.

Across thirteen instrumental pieces, James brings together acoustic guitar, fingerstyle playing and a collection of musical voices shaped by the places and memories around him.

Northern Michigan is present throughout the record, in its water, trees, gardens, birds and changing seasons. Alongside James’ guitars, fretless bass, strings, flute, harp, whistle and accordion gradually enter the picture, with each musician adding a different voice to the album.

Some of these pieces have been with us for months already. Today, for the first time, they can be heard as the album James intended them to be.

Dog Eared Days is out now on Raighes Factory.

From the Raighes Factory archives. 😊

A couple of photos from our recording studio in Sardinia, back in 2013.

I spent a lot of time in this room recording, producing and working on music, and the studio became an important part of Raighes Factory during those years.

Looking back at these photos brings back quite a few memories.

I think I’ll share some more from the archives from time to time. There are sixteen years of them now. 😊

A little bit about our name. 😊

“Raighes” means “roots” in the Sardinian language.

Raighes Factory was founded here in Sardinia in 2010. Since then, we’ve had the chance to work with artists from many different countries and to bring their music to listeners around the world.

Sixteen years later, we’re still here, working with an international family of artists and releasing new music every week.

I guess the name still makes sense. 😊

In this edition of “Voices from Raighes Factory”, we meet Carlos Maya, a pianist and composer whose work explores the relationship between melody, atmosphere and silence.

Carlos speaks about his creative process, the personal experiences that shape his compositions, and the ideas behind works including “Lotus”, “Tejido” and “Piano Chronicles”.

Improline – Floating Points

Contemporary neo-classical piano often develops through repetition, resonance and small changes in touch rather than through large formal contrasts. In this kind of writing, the space between phrases becomes part of the composition and gives each note a clearer weight.

In Floating Points, Improline works within that language through a concise sequence of piano phrases that appear, settle and gradually fade. The piece remains focused on the instrument’s natural tone, creating a calm and reflective atmosphere without adding unnecessary layers.

Zeekart • Flying Piano

A repeating piano figure has long been one of the simplest ways to create momentum in music. Whether in minimalist composition or contemporary electronic production, repetition invites the listener to notice the small changes that gradually reshape the whole.

In Flying Piano, Zeekart places that idea at the centre of the piece. The piano keeps returning with quiet determination while delay broadens each phrase and the steady rhythm gives every note a clear direction. The result is a chill beat that remains focused, energetic and naturally suited to moments of concentration.
