I came to Rome the other day for a quick visit and found myself near the archaeological site of Ostia Antica. Deciding to take advantage of the proximity of this marvelous place I went into this shop and ordered the most amazing sandwich which I am sharing right now with you. L’Alimentari di Ostia Antica is a historic type of delicatessen now become a restaurant. They also make sandwiches that one can take into the park. The sandwich is masterpiece five grain bread made by them, Wild cicoria, spicy salami and smoked scamorza cheese all melted together. Simply sublime! Thank you, Viola. It’s been a really long time since I’ve posted on Tuscan Epicure. Yes I have excuses but they’re all legitimate. I always kept eating and loving everything. I’ve been eating. Now that we’re back in Italy and traveling around I wanted to share some of it. These dishes that I’m presenting are from two restaurants down in the Cilento area, which is in the Campania region. The first is one of the most unforgettable pastas I’ve had in a long time, homemade ravioli with beet greens, ricotta, and various herbs in a local yellow tomato variety sauce. All of the vegetables are sourced in the garden surrounding the restaurant. The name of the place is il Palazzone and it’s in the town of San Giovanni a Piro. Next is an image of Joe Vinson harvesting wild fennel flowers as part of our annual ritual in a new location. Finally are some dishes from a wonderful restaurant called zii Filomena Caselli di Pittari, also in the Cilento area. Just wonderful, lunch discoveries, completely authentic and no tourists. mena # foodiesofinstagram
