Introducing the concept and mentor of the ninth UNIDEE Residency Module of the programme 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨, 𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 curated by 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗙𝗶𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗼 and 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗼.

In a time when language is crushed, emptied of meaning and made to tolerate everything, a delicate sound still reaches us from the past, speaking towards the future. The workshop led by 𝗛𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗺 𝗲𝗹-𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘆 begins from the ruins of this broken language and from the need to learn it anew. It explores how listening, poetry and shared words might help us imagine an im/possible tomorrow.

We are proud to present 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚, edited by Chiara Cartuccia and Lodovica Guarnieri, the final outcome of 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙚: 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘼𝙡𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙖.

Conceived and realized by UNIDEE Residency Programs at Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte, and curated by Sarah Rifky in dialogue with Edwin Nasr, the residency programme unfolded across 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮, 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀, 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗮 as part of 𝘼𝙡𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙖: (𝙍𝙚)𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙐𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨, supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Developed throughout this itinerant journey, the publication brings together essays, artworks, conversations and visual materials that explore the 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮, 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗻, offering new perspectives on their shared histories and urban imaginaries.

The publication features contributions by Bassam El Baroni, Marwa Benhalim, Chiara Cartuccia, Onur Çimen, Sara Fakhry Ismail, Lodovica Guarnieri, Stella Ioannidou, Zeynep Kaserci, Nina Kurtela, Gabriele Leo, Latent Community, Mark Lotfy, George Moraitis, Sarah Rifky, Omnia Sabry, Mahmoud El Safadi, Islam Shabana, Virgil B/G Taylor and Neja Tomšič.

The residency programme unfolded in dialogue with the social entrepreneurs Sarah Bahgat, Pauline de La Boulaye, Alexandre Field, Elektra Karatza, Michalis Christou, Demetra Ignatiou and, for the residency in Alexandria, with the support of the local producers B’sarya for Arts.

Alexandria: (Re)activating Common Urban Imaginaries (2020–2023) brought together the Royal Museum of Mariemont, BOZAR – Palais des Beaux-Arts, Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte, MUCEM, Onassis Stegi, Leiden University, Kunsthal Aarhus and Undo Point Centre for Contemporary Art, with the support of associate partners the French Institute of Alexandria, CLUSTER and Theatrum Mundi.

Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte and UNIDEE Residency Programs, in collaboration with UniCredit Group, announce a new open call supporting 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 for emerging artists working with socially engaged artistic practices that address 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀.

The two selected artists—one Italian artist and one international artist residing in Europe—will take part in a residency dedicated to the research and production of new artworks, which will become part of the UniCredit Art Collection.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲: Each selected artist will receive a gross fee of €6,500, together with a production budget of up to €2,500 and a research budget. The program will also cover travel, accommodation and meal expenses, alongside curatorial, technical and organisational support throughout the residency.

𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬, 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 is an invitation to a collective series of rehearsals that explores languages as geopolitical spaces of dispute, narratives, and encounters. It is a call to engage with the porosity of our bodies in action and the narratives that can infuse and strengthen our practice of remaining polyphonic, amid the crumbling circumstances of the present.

Selected participants will cohabit at during an immersive week-long residency, engaging in their ongoing practice alongside peers, invited mentors, and guests. Each module is part of the 2025–2026 Modules programme and contributes to the overarching framework of 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬, 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞.
Each module will host up to 12 residents and is open to international participants from all backgrounds, with no restrictions on disciplines, media, or methodologies.

UNIDEE Programme 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨, 𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 continued in June with 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗜: 𝙄𝙣 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙤. 𝙏𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙮, led by artist Francisca Benítez.

Beginning from total silence, the residency unfolded as a gradual collective attunement, from individual intentions to a shared practice. Through improvisation, somatic listening, and embodied engagement, participants explored forms of assembly where knowledge emerged through shared experience, reciprocal learning, and the collective practice of listening. Visits to urban gardens became moments for exchanging situated knowledge, while conversations around lingua franca questioned how languages are shared, negotiated, and continuously transformed. Time spent along the river invited reflection on its own entity and agency.
The residency concluded with an organic collective presentation of micro-actions, unfolding as a shared language and choreography.

From 8 to 13 June 2026, 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗘 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 welcomed sixteen practitioners and two educators from 𝗖𝗲́𝗴𝗲𝗽 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘂 (Québec, Canada) for a week-long residency dedicated to socially engaged artistic research.

Guided by artist, educator and UNIDEE Advisory Board member 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗼 (Beatrice Catanzaro), participants engaged in workshops, discussions and research activities exploring the relationship between artistic practice, territory and social transformation. The programme also included encounters with Michele Cerruti But (Michele Cerruti But), Cecilia Laabidi (Cecia) and Beatrice Ramella Pezza (Beatrice Ramella Pezza) alongside visits across Cittadellarte and the Biella area, offering different perspectives on local histories, communities and cultural contexts.

The residency concluded with a collective presentation of the projects developed throughout the week, marking the second edition of this biennial collaboration between Cégep Limoilou and UNIDEE Residency Programs.
