Don’t miss the opening of “Fly-by”, the new exhibition by Erik Saglia curated by Elsa Barbieri at the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Cavalese. - Save the date: tomorrow at 5 PM! 🚨

Born in Turin in 1989, Erik Saglia has built a rigorous artistic practice centered around questioning and shifting the structural reference of the modernist grid. For this solo exhibition, curated by Elsa Barbieri, every single piece has been created entirely by hand, from the physical construction of the frames to the intricate final layering of the painted surfaces. “Fly-by” is designed to create a vibrant space of exchange and connections, actively involving the local community and territory. By traversing the gallery rooms, visitors will experience a powerful dialogue between structured geometry and the surrounding space, turning the occasion into a lasting opportunity for relationship and discovery.

[…] Seeing the Alhambra in Granada was an extraordinary experience for me. It was the first time that I understood painting as something other than an object hanging on a wall. I thought that paintings could be in a fixed place, made for that place, made for the light of the place, experienced kinesthetically. It didn’t matter that the “painting” was tiles, it was still painting.[…] -

“Fly-by”, Erik Saglia’s new solo exhibition at Museo d’Arte Contemporanea of Cavalese, opens on June 20 and runs through October 18, 2026.
Inspired by the close flybys performed by satellites and space probes, the exhibition explores space as a field of observation, perception, and discovery. Starting from the modernist grid—a recurring element in Saglia’s practice—the artist creates immersive visual systems that challenge and reshape our experience of space.
For this occasion, Saglia presents a series of new handcrafted works, from the construction of the frames to the final painted surfaces, alongside site-specific interventions that activate the museum’s architecture as an integral part of the exhibition. Fly-by invites visitors to navigate new perspectives and engage with the dynamic relationship between artwork, space, and viewer.

“I try to construct images that are not narrative, but function as systems: I am interested in working with perception, with what is visible and what remains hidden.
The structure is always highly controlled, yet it must also leave room for something unpredictable, where light is not just an effect but a material that completely transforms the work.
My works do not tell a story, but create a condition, bringing the viewer into a space that is never fully defined.” – Erik Saglia

A critical reflection by on the elusive narratives and a subtle tensions between intimacy and ambiguity within the work of

“Emerging from the turbulent avant-garde tradition of the 1970s, Sam Samore has relocated his work in the very tension between the heroic confrontation with social reality and the critical but joyful ventures into the imaginary, beyond the immediate real. However, his choice is by no means a transcendental one. Instead, he merges himself into the endlessly entangling struggle with the existential paradox of the real itself. (Rather than as a contradiction - as he is aware of.) In his work, there is no longer the truly real, nor the genuinely fictional. What is generated out of this struggle is a “black hole in reality”, to use Slavoj Zizek’s terms.” - Hou Hanru

Happy Birthday to Bryan Hunt 🏆

To celebrate the occasion, we look back at installation views from his 1995 solo exhibition at Gagosian that brought together a series of sculptures exploring the relationship between natural structures, spatial tension, and abstraction. Suspended between architecture and nature, the exhibition reflected the artist’s ongoing investigation into space, rhythm, and transformation.

In this video, Lorenzo Balbi, Director of MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, and Thomas Brambilla, owner of the eponymous gallery, discuss the exhibition John Giorno: The Performative Word, offering insights into the artist’s groundbreaking practice and his lasting impact on contemporary art and poetry.

John Giorno (New York, 1936 – 2019) was a magnetic poet and performer who knew how to transform words into art.
From February 5 to May 3, 2026, MAMbo - Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, a division of the Settore Musei Civici of Comune di Bologna - is presenting John Giorno: The Performative Word, curated by Lorenzo Balbi. Held in the Sala delle Ciminiere, this is the first major Italian retrospective celebrating one of the most radical and visionary figures in contemporary culture.
John Giorno was a key figure in the avant-garde New York scene. A poet, artist, and activist, he tore down the boundaries between disciplines, turning poetry into a living body capable of inhabiting unexpected places. His friendships and collaborations with major figures of that era, including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, William Burroughs, John Cage, and Patti Smith, as well as his establishment of Giorno Poetry Systems in 1965 - a non-profit organization that revolutionized the dissemination of poetry by blending it with music, visual arts, political engagement, and community practices - are all a testament to Giorno’s essential impact on art history.[…] from the press release of the exhibition.

Join us on Saturday, June 20th, at the Cavalese Contemporary Art Museum for the opening of Erik Saglia's exhibition. We look forward to seeing you there!

Bryan Hunt’s sculptures explore the relationship between nature, architecture, and movement. Throughout his career, the artist has transformed organic forms — inspired by waves, waterfalls, vessels, and the human body — into sculptural structures that balance precision with fluidity.
From his celebrated Waterfall series to the iconic Airships, Hunt combines engineering, geometry, and abstraction to create works that feel both monumental and weightless. His sculptures often appear suspended in space, inviting viewers to reflect on gravity, balance, and the connection between natural forces and human-made forms.
Using materials ranging from bronze and aluminum to silk and wood, Hunt blurs the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and design. Each work becomes an exploration of space itself — not just an object to observe, but an environment to experience.
