“When Species Don’t Meet” è una esposizione nata da un dialogo tra gli artisti invitati e la collezione del Museo Civico di Scienze Naturali E. Caffi. Il progetto prosegue la collaborazione con gli enti territoriali, iniziata con l’Oasi WWF Valpredina, all’interno di un palinsesto annuale dedicato al rapporto tra l’uomo e gli animali.
Gli artisti hanno in questo caso potuto esplorare i depositi delle collezioni e chiedere in prestito alcuni reperti delle collezioni civiche.
Nella mostra l’ecologia è intesa come campo di tensione politica, storica e percettiva. La mostra evidenzia come le pratiche di osservazione e conservazione del vivente siano inseparabili dalle
strutture di potere che ne regolano la visibilità. L’esposizione, attraverso le opere degli artisti, da una parte mostra lo sbilanciamento di questo rapporto, esaltandone il carattere costruito nell’esposizione, dall’altra si domanda cosa ne resta escluso e marginalizzato.
“When Species Don’t Meet” is an exhibition born from a dialogue between the invited artists and the collection of the E. Caffi Civic Museum of Natural Sciences. The project continues the collaboration with local institutions, begun with the WWF Valpredina Oasis, as part of an annual program dedicated to the relationship between humans and animals.
In this case, the artists were able to explore the collection storerooms and request loans of items from the civic collections.
In the exhibition, ecology is understood as a field of political, historical, and perceptual tension. The show highlights how practices of observing and conserving living beings are inseparable from the power structures that regulate their visibility. Through the artists’ works, the exhibition, on the one hand, reveals the imbalance in this relationship, emphasizing its constructed nature within the display; on the other, it asks what remains excluded and marginalized.
