So thrilled to finally get to unleash Twisting Tiger on the world! Featuring nearly 25 minutes of original score, this one let me do so many things -- hybrid cinematic soundscapes, emotional orchestral swells, giant percussive action cues, and no shortage of traditional Chinese instrumentation mixed throughout. This one feels like it represents a turning point in my composing and I've been anxiously waiting to post it online since we finalized the score earlier this year. I hope you watch, enjoy, and share it with your friends!

Dead by Daylight – Cue 1m07 "Where's Your Moon?"
Even more fighting! Well, in a manner of speaking. Now we get into full on horror vibes because -- surprise -- Caitlin Hutson and Kellina Rutherford are actually vampires! Will they eat our hero? Or will he eat them? Is he a werewolf? Where IS his moon now? This cue is the transition from Action to Action-Horror, and the next one is when things really explode from a music perspective.

Dead by Daylight – Cue 1m06 "Knife Fight"
More fighting! In this short cue, our hero gets absolutely wrecked by Caitlin Hutson and Kellina Rutherford. The action here is blindingly fast, so I highly recommend checking out the full film to really see what's going on. Lots of fun FX patches going on here, crazy pulsing distorted synths, overall just intense sonic overload leading into (spoiler) Eric getting knifed in the chest and knocked across a hallway. Brutal.

Dead by Daylight – Cue 1m05 “Taking the Stairs”

Ok, ok, enough talking, more punching!

And so we arrive at the first fight scene of the film (this one's short, but don't worry, there's plenty more fighting to come). There are two main modes of music from here on out -- tension building and explosive action. This was one of my first opportunities to really put the sounds from Protovault's Legion to use, while still utilizing plenty of spooky string patches, synthesizers (especially the Juno 106), and the guitar at the end (the primary instrument used for Eric, currently still holding on to his humanity as he continues his attempts to leave).

I think the lesson here is that if you want to burn more calories, you should take the stairs.

Dead by Daylight – Cue 1m04 “Meeting Malik”
One of the longer individual cues from the film, this one highlights some of the big players in the film and might actually be my favorite cue in the film. We get tons of movement from the synth percussion lines, a nice dark chord progression, and plenty of tense effects to make sure we understand the stakes of what’s being discussed here. The main melodic information presented here actually isn’t the protagonist’s “human” theme — it’s a parallel harmonization that plays when Anya is seen or referenced. After all, this scene isn’t just about Eric thinking about himself.
This 100% dialogue scene plays out like a who’s who of the stunt world — (recently starring in Playstation’s Sifu short film), .people (featured in an upcoming Corridor Digital short) and (Paper Tigers, literally was a Power Ranger).

Dead by Daylight – Cue 1m03 “Into the Den”
Into the Den of what? Well, I guess you'll have to watch the full short film to find out (but it rhymes with "blampires"). I was going for a Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross vibe here (big inspirations on the electronic / industrial side of my composing). For this brief cue we get a pulsing rhythm to build tension through a gauntlet of dangerous meanies that our main character will be seeing again very very soon.
