Thank you for one of the records that made me fall in love with hip hop when I was a little girl.

Back when I knew very little about this music, but I could already feel the vibes that moved me. I was just obsessed with hearing DJs cut this up on mixtapes.

I still feel that energy.

“It takes two to make a thing go right…”
…and this one helped shape an entire culture.

Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Wake Up Everybody 1975. Not only soul music… more like real talk with orchestra behind.
This Gamble & Huff production is just perfect.
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes really captured one moment where music was still trying to say something important.
Teddy Pendergrass voice here is unbelievable. Strong but tired at the same time.
You can feel hope, politics, love, struggle… everything together.
This is the sound that made Philadelphia soul immortal.
Philly soul on another level. 💚
