“The most important question in contemporary philosophy is this: How, and to what extent, can we reconcile a certain conception that we have of ourselves as conscious, mindful, free, social and political agents with a world that consists entirely of mindless, meaningless particles in fields of force?”
John Searle,1932-2025

Confucius teaches us to forgive while holding onto the memory of kindness. Lao Tzu reminds us that the path we walk shapes our destination. Together, these two great Eastern thinkers, whose maxims share a rock in our park, inspire us to carry grace in our hearts and mindfulness in our steps.

When our Park opened 26 years ago, in June 2000, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden marked the occasion with a generous and meaningful gift: three benches crafted from oak trees that had been growing since the 18th century in His Royal Park in Stockholm. This tile stands as a lasting reminder of that historic gesture and the deep roots it represents.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Marianne Ehrnford Karlsson, beloved Co-Founder of the Philosophical Park together with her husband, Gunnar. Together, they shaped a sanctuary of contemplation, preservation and quiet wonder, a natural and untouched little corner of the world where one could simply rest, breathe, think and be in the moment, for once disconnected from the relentless pace and noise of modern life. Now, their energies are reunited once more and their inspiring vision endures in every path, every stone, every tile of our Park, as well as in every memory shared with those they loved and who loved them in return.

“Rome, ‘tis thine alone, with awful sway, to rule mankind, and make the world obey, disposing peace and war by thy own majestic way; to tame the proud, the fetter’d slave to free: these are imperial arts, and worthy thee.”
Virgilio, 70 b.C - 19 b.C.

Just a spot in our park: to wander, rest, and let time gently slow down. Today more than ever, we celebrate the beauty of taking a moment for yourself. Happy Labour Day!
