Handpoked in Iceland 🇮🇸

Inspired by the Wolf Cross, an iconic Viking Age symbol found in South Iceland and dated to around 950–1050 AD.

The design is interpreted as a meeting of Þór’s hammer (Mjölnir) and the Christian cross — a powerful reflection of the time when Norse beliefs and Christianity existed side by side.

Iceland officially adopted Christianity around 1000 AD, making the symbol a reminder of this turning point in Icelandic history.

Its exact story remains uncertain, but that mystery is part of its tale— a thousand-year-old meeting of old Norse belief, Þór’s hammer, the cross, and the wolf, recreated by hand on the skin.

Ravens are, without a doubt, one of my absolute favorite creatures to handpoke, and I never get tired of tattooing them. There’s something so powerful and mysterious about them that has always drawn me in.

These two ravens are inspired by Huginn and Muninn, Odin’s companions in Norse mythology — representing thought and memory. Between them sits a bind rune, adding another layer of meaning and intention to the piece.

Ravens have always held a very special place in my heart, and getting to create them in this way — slowly, by hand, one poke at a time — feels especially meaningful. 🐦‍⬛

Handpoked in Iceland — a series of ravens inspired by Huginn and Muninn, the two ravens of Odin.

In the Poetic Edda, Odin speaks of them in Grímnismál:

“Huginn and Muninn fly each day over the world.
I fear for Huginn that he come not back,
yet more anxious am I for Muninn.”

Huginn (“thought”) and Muninn (“memory”) are sent out at dawn to travel across the worlds, observing gods and men alike, before returning in the evening to whisper what they have seen.

In the old Norse sagas, Odin sent his two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, to fly across the Nine Realms each day. At dusk, they returned to his shoulders, whispering everything they had seen and heard.

Freyja, the goddess of love, magic, and war, traveled in a chariot pulled by two great cats. Their quiet strength became one of her most recognizable symbols.

The wolves Geri and Freki sat beside Odin in Valhalla. While the Allfather drank only w**e, he fed his faithful wolves the finest meat from his table, honoring their unwavering companionship.

These are the stories that inspire me every time I tattoo Nordic animals.
