This 'Oul House

This 'Oul House There's something about abandoned or disused buildings, I can't quite explain it. I chronicle some of those I happen across in my travels.

“Rhodo Gatehouse”. Found this beauty, with a pop of Rhododendron to lure me in, while driving in 2018 on a visit home to The North. The stove, how many meals were shared around there? Refuge sought from a winter gale? The porthole light must have cast a beautiful shadow when the sun was just right. Undisclosed location, Causeway Coast, Northern Ireland (2018).

Saw this old beauty peeking through the wintry trees. Probably would have driven right past in Summer. Perched up on a rise, large barn and greenhouse/shed, and a trusty old steed parked for the last time.

Kirkjufell -- one of Iceland's iconic scenes -- roughly means Church mountain. We happened to visit on a Sunday morning. On the highway, just beyond Kirkjufell, we spotted this little place. I got a soaker (or two) leaping over fences and through the fields to get to it. Totally worth it.

I named this "Hotspring house" since it was located on a farm road to a tiny, lovely, hotspring on the southern part of the Snaefellsnes peninsula.

While touring this peninsula in the Fall of 2016, we stopped along the way at a few stranded beauties - this was one of them. Breathtaking background, you can see how someone would have cherished living in a place like this for however long they did.
