Today Iceland celebrates who it is, and today feels like exactly the right day to introduce someone who is woven into that story. 🇮🇸
Her name is Melkorka and she came from Ireland, a Celtic princess who crossed the sea and made Iceland her home. You will find her in the sagas, which means she is real history carried in the oldest stories this land has ever told.
She learned Icelandic and she speaks it with her whole heart, and yes, with the accent of where she came from, because that is part of her too and she has never let go of it.
On a day when Iceland honours its own identity, Melkorka is a reminder that this island has always been shaped by people who arrived from somewhere else, brought their language with them and became part of the story anyway. 💚🍀
She is joining the Prinsessur family today and she will bring her tales, Celtic and Icelandic both, to your children at story hours, birthday parties and events.
Velkomin, Melkorka. Þú ert heimil hér.
(Welcome, Melkorka. You are home here.)
Thank you to who inspired us to add her to our lineup.
