Horses & Handcraft Giljar is a farm in the west of Iceland, Borgarfjörður. We run a small horserental over the summertime.

I, Josefina do various kind of handcraft, mostly paintings of the landscape, horses and other animals.

Next weekend I will travel to the north of Iceland again, to teach a workshop in wool spinning in Grímshús, Klífshagi 🤗🧶 I think there is still two spots left.
I am by no means an expert, but wool spinning is something I love & I’ve been spinning for 25 years. I spin mainly wool from our own sheep, but also other fibers that I get my hands on, such as dog hair, cat hair, angora rabbit fur & fox fur 🦊

Here are Martas photos from the snowy pace races at Selfoss last Saturday. This was the second last competition in the Champions League, Meistaradeld Líflands this year. Congratulations to Konráður Valur & Kastor, Árni Björn & Ögri and team Topriter 🤗✨

One of this winters big projects for me, has been to paint the trophies for those competitions, & at the moment I’m working on the trophies for the upcoming T1 & flying pace competitions next Saturday 🥳🏆🧑🏻‍🎨

Stormy weather & no school for the kids today, but I’m spending my day finishing up the trophies I’m painting for the pace competitions tomorrow 🐎🏆✨ As reference I’m using photos that I took 10 years ago at the Landsmót Hestamanna competitions at Hólar up north in Skagafjörður area. I’m looking forward to going there again this summer, for the Landsmót.

Today you could actually feel some early spring in the air here in West Iceland, especially compared to yesterdays windy weather. Let’s see what tomorrow brings 😅🙏🏼 At least I was happy to be able be outdoor when I put a first layer of varnish on the tiny house door, that I painted the other day 🚪The luck dragon is inspired by ‘s beautiful artwork “White dragon” 🐉✨

Here are some photos of the eight paintings I made this far as trophies for this years Meistaradeild Líflands 🏆✨🎨 The first photos I used as reference are from then I used a photo from Olil Amble at for the painting of young stallion Álfaklettur playing in the pasture. For the painting of Álfur frá Selfossi I got a beautiful photo of him from .christinalund_ taken by photographer Tine Johansen. For the last two paintings of nicely coloured yearlings in winter coat, I used my own photos as reference 📸 🙏🏼🥰🧑🏻‍🎨✨💖

This year I got the honor of making prices for the Icelandic Champions League of horse sports; Meistaradeild Líflands í Hestaíþróttum. I chose to paint on natural thin stone slices that I found in the mountains in our area. For the two prices of yesterdays T2 (tölt with loose reins) competition I used photos from photographer as reference. Big congratulations to Jón Ársæll & Díana that won the A-final, to Eyrún Ýr & Drangur that won the B-final, & to team Hjarðartún that got the team prize 🏆 👏🏼

Some photos from last weekends stone painting class that I was teaching in Grímshús in Öxarfjörður. This is about as far as you can get from where I live, so it’s quite a trip to get there, but this time I had the opportunity to visit in Akureyri on the way, as gave it to me for birthday present 🤗 Very cozy place, especially with the icicles & the snow covered trees 🌲✨

2016, I don’t think I had Instagram yet, but I was playing around a lot with the Canon 500D that gifted me 🙏🏼🥰 I painted tons of oil portraits that I showed at in the late autumn among with a group of friends. We had this exhibition a few years in a row (until the brewery closed) & tons of friends & neighbours showed up, & we had a great time 🥳 I had my horse rental over the summertime (I had it for 8 summers 🦄🥺) & my kids were 10 years younger than today ✨💖 The sweather I’m wearing on the photos with my dog Nemó, is made by my talented friend 🥰🧶
