Two good ones for the gardening Bjarkan (Birch tree) and Sól (sun). They will help you (and the vegitation) grow and give you a lot of power to work.

Have you gathered your strength after the the winter? Not all people have and feel they could use an extra spark to get them ready for summer. It´s a good idea to keep this one close at hand. In your pocket, in your purse or your bra (if your wearing one!), under your pillow while sleeping,. Try it, it works for me...

Winter is coming and we all need to connect to friends and family. At this time of year I keep Óðal and Bjarkan very close to me.

Runes have been passed down from Viking times. They reflect the Heathen mindset and worldview. They are actually connected to the natural sciences of that era, and contain an eternal truth that will endure as long as the sun rises every morning.

Óðal (estate, foundation)

Óðal is the sacred place of the family, a shelter where you seek peace and quiet. Óðal is the ground, base, or foundation of man in worldly terms. Spiritually, Óðal is the inheritance of man from his forefathers, as well as his loyalty and devotion to his roots, and to the Earth herself.

Positive side: Home and foundation of man, his roots and heredity.
Negative side: If any - Responsibility of those who have a family and a home to care for.

Dagur (Day)
Dagur is new light and a new beginning. It can be a symbol of a new life or new insights. Dagur can also mean a new birth, sometimes it can even mean death as being the start of a new life. Dagur is always a positive rune, although days are not all long and some are not very bright.

Positive side: A new light; a new beginning, a new life or a new and brighter point of view on old things.
Negative side: Not all new beginnings are long-lasting. Sometimes you miss the old life.

Lögur (a body of water)

Lögur is the water of life, spring, well or river, the source of life for living beings.
Lögur is a token of good health, creation and constructive energy.
Lögur clears away grime and stagnation and spreads new, fresh life.

Positive side: Better health, flowing creativity and essence of life.

Maður (man/ human being)

Maður is interaction with other people. It represents community and usually brings a new person into one´s life. Around every person there is a certain aura which has an effect on those present. Man always leaves his mark on his environment; good or bad. Not all characteristics are visible at first sight.

Positive side: New friendship, relationship or business partner. A connection to another person or a better connection to oneself. The Rune usually represents someone to learn from.

Negative side: New ways are not always better ways. New people and the changes they bring are not always positive.

Eykur/Jór (horse)

The horse of Óðinn with its eight legs was not only his mount, but also a symbol of a quick mind that can take the owner far and wide quickly. Eykur is the symbol of means of transport or a thought that will take you anywhere you want to go. Eykur offers a good chance to make life easier and perform well.

Positive side: A chance to fulfill one´s dreams. Sometimes brought to us as a thing or a tool.

Negative side: All tools should be used correctly, otherwise they will neither work nor give good results.

Bjarkan (Birch tree)
Bjarkan takes its name from the delicate, but strong Icelandic Birch tree. Bjarkan is the tree of growth, endurance, development, energy and hope even in the worst of circumstances. Bjarkan is the Rune of those who never give up, whatever happens and hold the respect and love of all.

Positive side: Bjarkan gives energy and endurance. It´s the Rune of those who give shelter and softness to others. Strong hope and a certainty of better things to come.

Negative side: It may take time for things to progress, but they certainly will.
