The Tub Art Space / Balinn listarými

The Tub Art Space / Balinn listarými The Tub Art Space was an art gallery in the village of Þingeyri, Westfjords of Iceland. Permanently closed. Currently closed, opens again in summer 2023.

The Tub Art Space is a unique art gallery in the village of Þingeyri in the Westfjords of Iceland. With no running water and electricity, the abandoned house is presented in its unrefined and ravaged condition, embodying the forgotten times and poetic images of the past. Each summer, the gallery hosts an exhibition with focus on site-specific art, exploring new ways of engaging contemporary art wi

th bygone times. The project offers artists and visitors to engage and go into a close dialogue with a desolate house, its architecture and the environment. By including rural Iceland, the public community and national and international artists, the vision is to cultivate the nuances in the Icelandic art scene, foster sustainability and pay tribute to creative endeavours in non-urban contexts. The house was built in 1910 and is located at Brekkugata 8, 470 Þingeyri, Iceland. The gallery is a non-institutional project and is first and foremost thought of as a space of ideas and creativity.
