Seraly Kozhamkulov: The Legend of Kazakh Theater
Seraly Kozhamkulov was a founding father of professional theater in Kazakhstan and a towering figure in its cultural history. Born in the Kostanay region, his journey led him from traditional roots to the grand stages of national drama.

Known for his extraordinary expressive power, Kozhamkulov had the unique ability to connect with audiences beyond language barriers. Whether in the deep tragedies of Mukhtar Auezov or social comedies, his performances were masterclasses in acting.

Beyond the stage, he was a star of the Kazakh cinema's golden age, appearing in classics like "Songs of Abai." As a "People's Artist of Kazakhstan," his legacy remains a pillar of the nation's artistic identity.

As we approach the 130th anniversary of his birth, we honor a man who dedicated "All His Life" to the soul of Kazakh art.

سرالی کوژامکولوف؛ ستاره درخشان تئاتر ملی قزاقستان
سرالی کوژامکولوف، از بنیان‌گذاران تئاتر حرفه‌ای قزاقستان و چهره‌ای ماندگار در تاریخ فرهنگی این کشور است. او مسیر هنری خود را با مهارتی خیره‌کننده در بیان و زبان بدن طی کرد.

آنچه او را متمایز می‌ساخت، توانایی درک نقش توسط مخاطب، فراتر از مرزهای زبان بود. کوژامکولوف با تسلطی بی‌نظیر، میان تراژدی‌های عمیق و کمدی‌های اجتماعی پیوند برقرار می‌کرد.

او علاوه بر تئاتر، در عصر طلایی سینمای قزاقستان نیز با آثاری چون «آوازهای آبای» درخشید و با دریافت عنوان «هنرمند مردمی»، نام خود را در تالار افتخارات فرهنگی این کشور جاودانه کرد.

در آستانه ۱۳۰امین سالگرد تولدش، میراث هنری او همچنان الهام‌بخش نسل‌های جدید هنرمندان است.

Hıdırellez | A Reflection of Shared Spring Rituals Across the ECO Region

Hıdırellez is one of the oldest spring celebrations across parts of Central Asia, Anatolia, the Caucasus, and the Balkans. Marking the awakening of nature and the arrival of brighter days, this tradition is associated with hope, renewal, and human connection.

Lighting bonfires, writing wishes, gathering in nature, and performing local music are among the rituals that continue to unite communities across the region.

In 2017, Hıdırellez was jointly inscribed by Türkiye and North Macedonia on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

Takht-i Sangin | Legacy of the Oxus

Takht-i Sangin, located on the banks of the Amu Darya, is one of Central Asia’s key ancient sites, dating from the 4th century BCE to the 3rd century CE.

It is best known for the Oxus Treasure—a remarkable collection of gold and silver artifacts now preserved in major museums.

Originating from a temple dedicated to the river deity, the site reflects a rich blend of Bactrian, Hellenistic, and Kushan Empire cultures.

تخت سنگین در ساحل آمودریا، از مهم‌ترین محوطه‌های باستانی آسیای مرکزی است که به سده‌های چهارم پیش از میلاد تا سوم میلادی بازمی‌گردد.

این محوطه به‌خاطر گنجینه آمودریا شهرت دارد؛ مجموعه‌ای از آثار زرین که امروزه در موزه‌های بزرگ نگهداری می‌شود.

این آثار از معبدی باستانی سرچشمه گرفته و نشان‌دهنده پیوند فرهنگ‌های باختری، هلنیستی و امپراتوری کوشانی است.

Türkiye’s soft power is breaking barriers

Tajik wheelchair basketball teams are gaining international experience through the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

TİKA continues to promote the active participation of people with disabilities in social life and sports in Tajikistan. Through a training camp held in Antalya, athletes improved not only their technical skills but also gained valuable international team experience and exposure to different styles of play.

During the program, the players also attended professional wheelchair basketball matches in Türkiye, closely observing tactical systems and on-court applications used by elite teams.

This initiative marks the third phase of TİKA’s long-term capacity-building program for wheelchair basketball in Tajikistan. In the first phase in 2024, sports wheelchairs and equipment were provided to local clubs. In the second phase in 2025, professional coaches from Türkiye traveled to Tajikistan to deliver comprehensive training programs.

The Antalya camp aimed to strengthen athletes’ technical capacities, provide international exposure, and help them better understand sports environments in different countries. The broader goal is to reinforce the institutional development of wheelchair basketball in Tajikistan and contribute to the creation of a future national team infrastructure.

Decorative Art

Kundal — known as “clear ornamental painting” — is a unique Central Asian art form that has survived and continued to flourish only in Tajikistan.
Emerging in the 15th century, it decorated monuments in Samarkand such as Shah-i-Zinda, Gur-e-Amir, and Ak-Saray with gold‑rich patterns resembling luxurious brocade.

Its beauty lies in the harmony of symbolic motifs, the blend of natural and geometric forms, and the luminous use of gold.
Although kundal disappeared elsewhere in Central Asia by the 19th century, Tajik artists preserved and revived it in both traditional and modern styles.

From the late 20th century, young painters like M. Raqibova and D. Ahmadova introduced new interpretations enriched with natural motifs.
Masters such as Hamroqul Sharifov and Mirzorahmat Olimov — founder of the national kundal school — played a key role in sustaining this art in Khujand and Dushanbe.

📖 کندل، یا «نقاشی تزیینی شفاف»، از هنرهای منحصربه‌فرد آسیای مرکزی است که تنها در تاجیکستان حفظ شده و همچنان رشد می‌کند.
این هنر در سده پانزدهم پدید آمد و بناهایی چون شاه‌زنده و گور امیر را با نقوش طلایی چشمگیر آراست.

زیبایی کندل در ترکیب نقش‌مایه‌های نمادین، هماهنگی اشکال طبیعی و هندسی، و درخشش طلا نهفته است.
با وجود افول آن در دیگر مناطق، کندل در تاجیکستان حفظ و در قرن بیستم دوباره احیا شد.

هنرمندان جوانی چون M. Raqibova و D. Ahmadova سبک‌های تازه‌ای به آن افزودند و استادانی مانند همرقل شریف‌اف و میرزارحمت علیم‌اف نقش مهمی در گسترش این هنر داشتند.

Classical poetic forms such as the Ghazal, Masnavi, and Ruba‘i are among the most enduring shared cultural traditions across ECO member states.
From Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan to Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, these poetic forms have connected languages, cultures, and generations for centuries.

The Ghazal became a voice for love and mysticism, the Masnavi a medium for storytelling and spiritual thought, and the Ruba‘i a concise expression of philosophy and wisdom.
Poets such as Hafez, Saadi, Rumi, Omar Khayyam, Fuzuli, Ali-Shir Nava’i, Magtymguly Pyragy, Iqbal, and Ghalib shaped this literary heritage and carried it across the region.

These poetic traditions demonstrate that the ECO region shares not only geography, but also deep cultural and literary roots that continue to inspire contemporary literature, music, and art.

Tea Culture in Iran | A Ritual of Connection

A simple moment: the sound of tea being poured, rising steam, and a pause before conversation.

Across the ECO region, tea is more than a drink—it is a shared social ritual rooted in history, shaped along routes like the Silk Road.

In Iran, especially since the Qajar period, tea has become a symbol of hospitality, dialogue, and human connection.

Recognized globally, tea traditions—including those in China, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan—were inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2022.

A simple cup, carrying a living tradition.

سنت چای‌نوشی در ایران | آیین پیوند

لحظه‌ای ساده: صدای ریختن چای، بخار آرام، و مکثی پیش از گفت‌وگو.

در کشورهای اکو، چای تنها نوشیدنی نیست؛ آیینی اجتماعی با ریشه در مسیرهایی چون جاده ابریشم است.

در ایران، از دوره قاجار، چای نماد مهمان‌نوازی و ارتباط انسانی شده است.

این سنت در جهان نیز به‌عنوان میراث ناملموس شناخته شده؛ از جمله در چین، ترکیه و آذربایجان (یونسکو، ۲۰۲۲).

در دل یک استکان ساده، میراثی زنده جریان دارد.

🏔️ Koytendag | A Geological and Ecological Treasure of Turkmenistan

Koytendag Mountain Range in eastern Turkmenistan is one of the region’s most remarkable natural landscapes, stretching along the border with Uzbekistan and rising to Mount Aýrybaba, the highest peak in Turkmenistan.

Known for its Jurassic limestone formations, deep gorges, caves, and unique karst landscapes, the region is also home to the famous “Dinosaur Plateau,” where hundreds of fossilized dinosaur footprints have been preserved for millions of years.

Koytendag also hosts valuable ecosystems and wildlife, making it an important ecological zone within Central Asia’s mountain belt. Today, parts of this landscape are included in UNESCO’s Tentative List, highlighting its geological and environmental significance.



🏔️ کوی‌تن‌داغ | گنجینه‌ای زمین‌شناختی و زیست‌محیطی در ترکمنستان

رشته‌کوه کوی‌تن‌داغ در شرق ترکمنستان، یکی از برجسته‌ترین چشم‌اندازهای طبیعی منطقه است که در امتداد مرز ازبکستان قرار دارد و تا قله آیری‌بابا، بلندترین نقطه ترکمنستان، امتداد می‌یابد.

این منطقه با سازندهای آهکی ژوراسیک، دره‌های عمیق، غارها و چشم‌اندازهای کارستی شناخته می‌شود و «فلات دایناسورها» با ردپاهای فسیل‌شده میلیون‌ها ساله، از مهم‌ترین ویژگی‌های آن به شمار می‌رود.

کوی‌تن‌داغ همچنین زیستگاه گونه‌های ارزشمند جانوری و بخشی مهم از کمربند اکولوژیک آسیای مرکزی است. امروزه بخش‌هایی از این منطقه در فهرست موقت میراث جهانی یونسکو قرار دارد و اهمیت زمین‌شناختی و زیست‌محیطی آن مورد توجه قرار گرفته است.
