A session lasts about 10 minutes and has to be repeated about 10 times. The patient at the Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital Varanasi receives a heated ghee eye bath called Netra Tarpana (also known as "Golden Gaze«).

Professor Shiv Ji Gupta operates on a patient's a**l fistula in the traditional way: a surgical thread with medicinal herbs is inserted into the a**l ca**l. Gupta treats up to 200 patients daily.
On a wall relief in the waiting room is written:
»A robust patient of piles should be made to lie on his back in a clean room, on an even plank or bed, in moderate climatic condition on a cloudless day. The upper portion of the body of the patient should be placed in supine position on the lap of an attendant with the a**l area facing towards the sun.«
Surprisingly the doctors where very keen on the idea of us attending the surgery. The only condition was that we should take off our shoes.

I am finally working again.
Covering a couple of stories in India together with for magazine.

I will be posting some sneek peaks and images I took along the road for you to stay excited about the final results (I will be posting as soon as they have been published).

I took my polaroid camera along and this is the first black and white image. I will soon tell you more about this lovely family.

So far it has been totally exciting and surprising to say the least.
