Witness the historic staging of Sudrakaโ€™s timeless story, Mrcchakatikam, brought to life through the worldโ€™s oldest surviving theatre tradition, Koodiyattamโ€˜s classical form under the legendary Koodiyattam exponent and director G.Venu.

Mrcchakatikam (โ€˜The Little Clay Cartโ€™) is one of Sanskrit literatureโ€™s most vibrant plays, alive with wit, romance, and drama. The play follows Charudatta, a noble Brahmin merchant, and Vasantasena, a courtesan of beauty and heart, against a backdrop of gamblers, monks, thieves, and revolutionaries. Amid mistaken identities, moral conflict and the triumph of truth, the play celebrates compassion, love, and social justice-themes that remain as resonant today as they were centuries ago. The Natanakairali troupe present the work entirely within Koodiyattamโ€™s classical grammarโ€”its gestures, music, and rhythm. Supported by Bhoomija Trust, this production offers the audience a rare encounter with timeless theatre.

Director G.Venu shares that when an important play such as Mrcchakatikam is being presented in the format of Kutiyattam in present times, it enhances the contemporary relevance of the ancient art form.

05/04/2026

Something Like Truth, written by Shanta Gokhale and directed by Parna Pethe is a theatrical exploration of truth, freedom, and justice through four monologues. Spanning 19th-century France, early 2000s India, and post-war Sri Lanka, the play is a fictional interpretation of women from different corners of the world. Their stories are intimate, political, and deeply human; they open up a space for interpretation and reflection. Blending text with movement and music, the performance is an exploration of resistance, memory, and the pursuit of integrity.

The director shares that delving into the meaning of truth and untruth in todayโ€™s world has been a deeply enriching experience for her. The challenge and joy lay in weaving individual monologues into a unified theatrical journey.

Inspired by historical events, โ€œThe Queenโ€, a 72ยฐ East Production, is a fictional story set in Banasvan, 1585, that aims to capture what lies beneath the broad strokes of heroism and villainy, truth and lies, and a marriage in crisis.

Shunted to the west wing of the palace after her husband takes another wife, Queen Durga wrestles with her fading relevance, her sonโ€™s future, and her estranged husbandโ€™s uneasy ties to Akbar, knowing that one wrong move could cost them the kingdom and their lives.

Come join us for a gripping performance that reimagines history through the fierce, vulnerable voice of a Queen at a turning point in her life.

Any similarity to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

02/04/2026

The word โ€œidentityโ€ is something that some take pride in, while for others it is an unbearable burden, a cycle of suffering and hardship that they must carry throughout their lives. Many times, in the name of survival, one continues to move forward by hiding their identity and believing it to be life only to find themselves exhausted and regretful on paths that seem impassable. They don`t let go of their colourful desires even though it is exhausting. They become fireflies in the dark. At that moment, darkness becomes a celebration, light becomes a celebration.

โ€œBob Marley from Kodihalliโ€ by Jangama Collective is a cluster of stories that revolves around very sensitive discrimination of identity. By using Babasaheb Ambedkar`s โ€œWaiting for Visaโ€ as a metaphor, the question โ€œWhere is he truly trying to enter?โ€ becomes important.

31/03/2026

โ€˜Rubber Girlโ€™ was the name given to Cuckoo Moray, one of the first cabaret dancers in Indian cinema in the 1940s, who was followed by a long line of singularly powerful performers who dared to be terrific and terrifying.

The project of Rubber Girl taps into this legacy asking questions of how, through the Indian cabaret body, we as a nation are dealing with our fear of โ€˜illegitimateโ€™ desire - how are we reacting post-independence to a world outside that is โ€˜watchingโ€™ - and how are we โ€˜watchingโ€™ our contradictory selves. The performance of Rubber Girl seeks out key moments in the history of World War Europe, the birth of DADA, French chanson, the Chinese revolution and Indian cinema. Despite these journeys, the character of RUBBER GIRL remains autonomous, with the inconsistent attitude of those who take no account of the past and are not afraid of the future. The figure grows alive on the stage, gains autonomy and eventually rebels against the histories that it draws from Preethi Athreya.

R-Evolution by Sage for the Ages (Album Launch)

Sage for the Ages, one of Indiaโ€™s most compelling, contemporary, genre-fluid quartet responds to a world in flux, with โ€œR-Evolutionโ€ - their second full-length album, that will premiere at the Remembering Veenapani Festival, 2026.

Blending improvisation, song-writing, and modern harmonic language, the album moves between stillness and urgency to confront environmental crisis, political inertia and personal responsibility with clarity, restraint and emotional depth. Across nine original compositions, the music resists easy resolution, favouring tension, nuance, and open-ended reflection.

R-Evolution speaks from India, but it speaks to a global moment of uncertainty โ€” inviting listeners to engage, question, and listen more closely. Produced by Dhani Muniz and recorded at the Paper Factory, this production captures the immediacy of live interplay while retaining precision and depth- foregrounding improvisation without sacrificing sonic detail.

From the moment of its premiere on 12th April 2026, at the Remembering Veenapani Festival at Adishakti,
โ€œR-Evolutionโ€ by Sage for the Ages will be available worldwide on all major streaming platforms. Come stand with us in the frontline of this R-Evolution.
