Drishyayan Presents “Nekre”
Playwright: Manoj Mitra
Direction: Aritra Mukherjee
Language: Bengali
In a remote island of southern Bengal, far removed from the city’s light, a predatory order takes root—where power feeds upon the helpless and greed steadily devours everything in its path. From the depths of the forest emerges a haunting presence, half myth and half retribution, unsettling the very foundations of this ruthless dominion. As wealth, power and fear begin to change hands, Nekre asks a disturbing question: who is truly the beast—the creature shaped by the wilderness, or the human being consumed by avarice? A stark allegory of oppression and resistance, the play explores how prolonged deprivation can awaken a primal strength in the oppressed, turning the hunted into the hunter.
