Guru-Śiṣya parampara is the conduit through which the Śakti of Sanātana dharma flows.

It represents continuity. It represents the eternity of universal consciousness or Absolute Truth.

That is why our tradition says: Guru Krpā hī Kevalam.

Vigraha: Kaliya Mardana

Temple: Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, Javagal, Chikamagaluru, Karnataka

Description: Krishna is killing the Kaliya demon, dancing on many of his heads. The Naga figure on the right signifies flowing water. The Yamuna can be seen below. Garuda is also present in the panel as he is part of prabhu's lila but forms no part of the legend.

Legend: The Bhagavata Purana tells this story in detail in which Garuda had driven Kaliya, the serpent from the Ramanaka island, and Kaliya fled and hid in the Yamuna river near Vrindavan but due to his vicious nature he turned the entire area where he lived full of poison. Once he even troubled Radha. It was then that Krishna thought of teaching him a lesson. One day he got to the bottom of the Yamuna and got hold of the Kaliya Naga and then started stomping on his many heads to strike the venom out. The Nag slowly started dying but his wives pleaded with Krishna who then took a promise out of Kaliya not to trouble people and gave him abhaya from Garuda so he could go back to Ramanaka island and live there.
