Prints of Bengal Print Archive of Bengal In Bengal, Annadamangal is the first known illustrated book published by Ganga Kishore Bhattacharya in 1816.

This event was just the start which within a few decades took a colossal shape and the demand for engraved wood illustrations grew exponentially. In the mid 19th Century, the Government School of Art was established. With the native artist receiving the proper training, the conception of printmaking became more and more prevalent. In the late 19th century, several art studios were established in C

alcutta and artists started display lithography. Different types of printmaking techniques emerged during this era, the extent of which is unimaginable today. We are still trying to uncover some aspects of this art form because we do not have any distinctive archive or documentation. We intend to create a platform to bring the excellence of Bengal's popular art to the forefront and welcome any information or suggestions about this period. This is an initiation by Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, Art Alinda Archive.

Today is the birth anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay a name that still echoes in our hearts through the words Vande Mataram.

More than just a writer, he was a thinker, a patriot, and someone who believed that words could move mountains. Born in 1838, Bankim Chandra gave us stories that stirred the soul and ideas that sparked a revolution. He showed us that literature isn’t just for reading; it can inspire, challenge, and even change the course of history.

On his birthday, we remember the man whose pen gave India one of its most powerful voices a reminder of how courage, imagination, and love for the motherland can leave a lasting legacy.

হইয়াছিলেন বৃদ্ধা শিরে পাকা কেশ।
চরুর ভক্ষনে যেন প্রথম বয়েস।।
মাসে মাসে হইল সে গর্ভের বর্ধন।
নয় মাস গর্ভবতী হলো তিনজন।।
দেখি দশরথ রাজা আনন্দিত মন।
পঞ্চামৃত দিয়া কোল গর্ভের শোধন।।
যে ছিল প্রাক্তনে পূণ্য তাহারি কারণ।
কৌশল্যারে দেখা দেন প্রভু নারায়ন।।
স্বপ্নে শঙ্খ চক্র গদা পদ্ম শাঙ্গধারী।
চতুর্ভুজ রূপে দেখা দিলেন শ্রীহরি।।
