നമ്മുടെ സമൂഹത്തിൽ അദൃശ്യരായി പോകുന്ന, സ്വയം അധ്വാനിച്ച് തലയുയർത്തി ജീവിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കൂട്ടം പെൺകരുത്തുകളിലേക്കുള്ള ഞങ്ങളുടെ യാത്ര ഇവിടെ തുടങ്ങുന്നു

In the past, boatmakers were given
great respect in every village.
Making a wooden boat
required days of hard work and craft.
Then came fiber boats—
they are quick to make and cost much less.
Naturally, everyone switched to buying them.
Because of this, the craftsmen
who carved traditional wooden boats
are left with no work today.
Before factory-made fiber,
the beauty of handmade craft
and the livelihood of these humans
are slowly fading away.

പണ്ടൊക്കെ വഞ്ചിയുണ്ടാക്കാൻ
ആശാന്മാർക്ക് വലിയ ബഹുമാനമായിരുന്നു.
ഒരു തടി വഞ്ചി പണിയാൻ
ദിവസങ്ങളോളം കഷ്ടപ്പെടണം.
ഇന്ന് ഫൈബർ വഞ്ചികൾ വന്നു,
വേഗത്തിൽ പണി തീരും, വിലയും കുറവ്.
അതോടെ ആളുകൾ അത് വാങ്ങാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
പക്ഷേ, ആഞ്ഞിലിത്തടി ചെത്തി
വഞ്ചിയുണ്ടാക്കിയിരുന്ന മനുഷ്യർക്ക്
ഇന്ന് പണിയില്ലാതെയായി.
കടകളിൽ നിന്ന് വാങ്ങി വെക്കുന്ന ഫൈബറിന് മുന്നിൽ
കൈകൊണ്ട് പണിത പഴമയുടെ ഭംഗിയും
ആ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ജീവിതവും
പതുക്കെ ഇല്ലാതാവുകയാണ്...

"പണ്ട് കായൽക്കരകളിൽ വലിയ പെരുമയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന വഞ്ചിപ്പണി മേസ്തിരിമാർക്ക്, ഇന്ന് അർഹിക്കുന്ന കൂലിയോ ബഹുമാനമോ കിട്ടാറില്ല. പുതിയ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യകൾ വന്നതോടെ അവരെയൊക്കെ ആളുകൾ വെറും സാധാരണ തൊഴിലാളികളായി മാത്രം കാണാൻ തുടങ്ങി."
