On 15 May 2026, the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, in association with the Russian Geographical Society, organised a seminar on “The Role of Geography in Wartime Evacuation: A Study of the Road of Life during the Siege of Leningrad.”

On 15 May 2026, the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum and the Foundation Russkiy Mir Foundation jointly organised a literary seminar to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Mikhail Bulgakov. Writers and critics attended the seminar.
Writer C. Anoop in his inaugural adddress, said that Mikhail Bulgakov was loved by readers worldwide because he combined fearless political satire, deep philosophical questions, dark humour, and imaginative fantasy in a way that feels timeless and emotionally honest.
Prof. Govindan Nair, former Head of the Department of Russian at the University of Kerala, laureate of the Pushkin Medal and translator of The Master and Margarita, delivered the keynote address. Other speakers included Dr Anilkumar (who holds a PhD in Russian on satire in Bulgakov’s works) and Kavitha Nair.

On 23 April, the World Book Day celebration was held under the auspices of the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum. Writer and former Pro Vice-Chancellor of Sri Sankara Sanskrit University, Prof. K. S. Ravikumar, was the chief guest. The status of a Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership underscores the scale and depth of Russia-India ties across the political, trade and economic, scientific and technological, educational, and cultural spheres. Flagship areas include the implementation of joint investment projects, the development of transport corridors, and collaboration in space exploration and nuclear energy. The Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, in association with the International Russophile Movement, organised a series of events to mark the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight on 11 and 12 April 2026.
The festival, titled POEHALI, comprised a meeting of Indians named Gagarin, an exhibition of photographs highlighting Yuri Gagarin’s life, space flight, and visit to India, a seminar, and an elocution competition among colleges.
The festival began with five Keralites named Gagarin, led by Yuri Gagarin from Kannur district, offering floral tributes to Yuri Gagarin’s bust in front of the Honorary Consulate.
Mr R.A.D Pillai, former Deputy Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre inaugurated the seminar.

BRICS Can act as a Suitable Platform for Advancing a Multipolar World — Experts
Under the auspices of the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, a seminar titled India–Russia Dynamics and the Strategic promise of BRICS was organised to mark India’s BRICS presidency in 2026.
The seminar was attended by Prof. Himanshu Prasad Roy, Chairman of the Centre for Political Studies, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and Prof. G. Gopakumar, an expert in International Relations and former Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Kerala and other experts on international relations.
In his address, Prof. Himanshu Prasad Roy observed that other members of BRICS could view the relationship between India and Russia as a model, noting that the broader objectives of BRICS could be realised if similar levels of cooperation were fostered among all member states.
Prof.Gopakumar highlighted that de-dollarisation is important in establishing a more balanced distribution of power. He further noted that increased trade among BRICS countries in their own currencies could act as a catalyst for this process.
The Honorary Consul of Russia in Thiruvananthapuram, Ratheesh Nair, stated that additional events would be organised to commemorate India’s BRICS presidency. Dr. P. Anilkumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at the Central University of Kerala, also addressed the gathering.
Students of International Relations from various colleges participated in the seminar.
