83rd ANNIVERSARY OF VICTORY IN THE BATTLE OF KURSK
23 August 2026
An exhibition and a commemorative meeting were organised jointly by the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, the Victory Museum in Moscow and the International Russophile Movement to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Battle of Kursk during the Second World War.
An exhibition titled “Закат операции «Цитадель»” (The Downfall of Operation Citadel) was organised at the Roerich Art Gallery in Trivandrum. About 50 photographs depicting different stages of the Battle of Kursk, the city of Kursk during the war, the horrific experiences of the people, their resilience, and the heroes who fought against N**i Germany were put on display.

The Indian Centre of the Russian Geographical Society in Trivandrum celebrated BRICS Geographers’ Day by honouring teachers and students of geography and geology for their contributions to the study and understanding of the Earth and its environment.
The event was organised with the support of the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum.
Dr Sudeep T. P., Assistant Professor of Geography, Government College Kulathoor, Neyyattinkara, and Dr Divya P. Nair, Assistant Professor in Geography, Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, addressed the gathering and spoke on the significance of geography and geographical education.

The Youth Wing of the International Russophile Movement–Kerala Chapter, organised a seminar commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Soviet–Indian Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation. The discussions focused on the historical significance of the Treaty, signed on 9 August 1971, and its contribution to strengthening political, strategic and people-to-people relations between India and the Soviet Union and, subsequently, Russia.

Students from both Russia and India participated in the seminar. The Russian participants were Leonid Vetrov of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R. E. Alekseev, Daria Burdaeva of Samara State Technical University, and Artem Eroshenko of Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Sibstrin). Haran Rajesh and Michele Binoy, students of International Relations at the Central University of Kerala, represented India.

The young speakers discussed the historical circumstances surrounding the 1971 Treaty, its importance for India during a crucial period in South Asian history, and the evolution of bilateral relations into the present-day India–Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. They also emphasised the role of youth, education and cultural exchanges in carrying the longstanding friendship between the two countries into the future.

On August 5-6, the the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, in association with the International Russophile Movement, organised the Humanitarian Atom Fest, marking the 55th anniversary of the Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation.
A series of events, highlighting Russia-India cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, included a seminar titled “Nuclear Energy for a Sustainable and Green Future”, a photo exhibition tracing the history and development of the Russian nuclear industry, a quiz competition and a round-table discussion.
The closing ceremony was addressed by former Indian diplomat T.P.Sreenivasan, Chairman and Managing Director of the Kerala State Electricity Board M.G.Rajamanickam, Honorary Consul of Russia in Trivandrum Ratheesh Nair, Head of the Russian specialists at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Dmitry Savvin and Head of the Department for Organisational and Technical Support of the Kudankulam NPP Anastasia Morozova.

Book Titled Reading Anton Chekhov: Literary and Cultural Perspectives Presented in Trivandrum
Under the auspices of the International Russophile Movement and the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum, India, the book Reading Anton Chekhov: Literary and Cultural Perspectives was ceremoniously launched on 30 July 2026 at the Assembly Hall of the Government College for Women, Trivandrum.
The 140-page volume, published by the International Russophile Movement, is a collection of scholarly articles contributed by 16 teachers and research scholars from universities and colleges across Kerala.
The book was formally released by renowned Malayalam writer and former IAS officer K. V. Mohan Kumar, who presented the first copy to acclaimed National Award-winning filmmaker Shyamaprasad (Rajagopal Shyamaprasad). Professor Chitra T. Nair, Principal of the Government College for Women, and Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of Russia in Trivandrum, also addressed the gathering.
The book launch was attended by more than 200 students.

On 29 July 2026,The Russian Centre of the Foundation Russkiy Mir and Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum commemorated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute with a special educational programme. The event began with the screening of a documentary. Dr. Hrishika Katyayan, who had training at the institute, and Dr S. Anil Kumar, Deputy Head of the Russian Language Institute and a Russian language teacher, spoke at the function. Students of the new batch of Russian Language attended the programme and actively interacted with the speakers.

PHOTO EXHIBITION TO CELEBRATE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF BOLSHOI THEATRE

A special exhibition of photographs showcasing the rich history, enduring legacy, present-day beauty and magnificent architecture of the Bolshoi Theatre was organised in Thiruvananthapuram. The exhibition offered visitors a fascinating visual journey through the evolution of one of Russia’s most celebrated cultural institutions and one of the world’s most renowned centres of ballet and opera. The exhibition was jointly organised by the International Russophile Movement and Russkiy Mir.
Through a carefully selected collection of photographs, the exhibition presented different chapters in the remarkable history of the Bolshoi Theatre, highlighting its transformation over the centuries and its significant contribution to Russian and world culture. Images depicting the theatre’s majestic exterior, richly decorated interiors, historic auditorium and distinctive architectural features provided visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the grandeur of this iconic landmark.

World Chess Day was observed in Trivandrum with a chess tournament for students and schoolchildren. The tournament was organised jointly by in association with the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum the International School of Chess and the International Russophile Movement. More than 100 players took part in the day-long tournament. Santhosh B. Shibu, who has a FIDE rating of 1819, won the tournament with 5.5 points.

RESULT
In the Under-9 category, S. Arun Karna secured first place with 6 points, while Milas Salim Afnan finished second, also with 6 points. Rawther A. Nehan took third place with 5.5 points. In the Under-15 category, B. Shibu Sanoosh, with a FIDE rating of 1819, emerged as the winner with 5.5 points. Jishnu Nilesh secured second place with 4.5 points, followed by Krishnan Nandan in third place, also with 4.5 points.

On 19 July 2026, a seminar titled “Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay: Bridging Cultures Through Exploration and Ethnography” was organised by the Indian Centre of the Russian Geographical Society in association with the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Thiruvananthapuram to mark the 180th birth anniversary of the renowned Russian explorer, ethnographer and anthropologist Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay.

The seminar highlighted Miklouho-Maclay’s remarkable contributions to exploration, ethnography and the study of indigenous peoples, as well as his enduring legacy in promoting intercultural understanding and respect for human diversity.

Papers were presented by Gopika B. T., Field Investigator, ICSSR Major Project, Central University of Kerala, and Swaroop Paul M., Research Assistant, ICSSR Major Project, Central University of Kerala. Tirzah Olive Rogi, a fourth-year student of the Department of International Relations, delivered the introductory remarks on the life and legacy of Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay.
An exhibition of photographs highlighting Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay's life and expeditions was also organised as part of the jubilee celebration.
